| Cold water critter diving at it's best!! San Juans Rebreather charter photos... thought you guys might like to see some photos from Long Island/South Lopez Island, San Juans WA... the stars aligned for beutiful viz, zero chop, full sun, and a great group of rebreather divers... an absolutely steller dive! Many thanks to 4ster/steve for putting this local rebreather only trip together. In steve's words:"Skipper Curt of the Naknek absolutely nailed the slack for this site, we had over an hour and a half to look at all the pretties." check out the site: San Juan Islands Diving, Naknek/Bandito Charters. this will go down as one of the top ten memorable dives I've done in the North West! I've always thought I had to go to Canada to get in dives like this! This wall bottoms out around 160ft. this was a rebreather critter divers delight, with 100% growth coverage shallow to deep. we had a nice 104 minute dive gradually zig zagging up from the depths...one of those dives you just don't want to ever end. I spent my deco with my head in "the weeds" critter shot hunting. Got so zened out steve was wondering if everything was OK since all he could see were my feet sticking out, motionless . Simply heaven! thanks again to all for making it possible to do this rebreather only charter at our own pace!here's a Flickr set (had to lower the rez to get them up...think crystal clear): 8-10-08, Long Island WA - a set on Flickr

How big was that crab? hey Andy, the crab was not so big, maybe 5 inches across. I've seen some big box crabs in the area but not on this dive. there were lots more critters than nidibranchs to shoot, but as you know I'm a bit of a minimalist at this point with photography, gettting a real camera with some nice strobes is on the list...down past a needle valve, radial scrubber, trimix cert... no big rush, i'm taking my time enjoying every step of the way.I'd love to go back up to the San Juans and do an overnight even just out on the deck like we all did in Indo and get a couple of days of diving with out having to motor so much... it's another world out in the islands here too! g
