![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Andria Doria it all depends on what you want to do. day boat or short trips, sea turtle<chuck wade>,independence<dan bartone>. liveaboard/multiday, johnjack<zero>,explorer<dave sutton>,garloo<hank garvin> best weather usually is july. uwho is a ways south. most boats stage from montauk or rhode island, uwho is easy day away in the other direction. you could do doria day trip off say the seaturtle from montauk ny and then day trip the uwho off say indpendence from manasquan new jersey, possibly depends on their exact schedules. but you have a 4-6 hour drive between them in you rental car. lots of other deep stuff from montauk, say norness, republic, uboat off block, bass, dixon, plenty to fill a week. enjoy ! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Andria Doria We run our trips specifically for divers traveling in from long distance, and in order to do that we run a 10 day window (weekend to the following weekend) with no specific days to run to the Doria and the other days used for our closer (excellent) wrecks. We provide stage bottles, gas, sorb, loaner gear, etc. Here's last years trip report: http://www.rebreatherworld.com/trip-...gn-2007-a.html If I had to recommend someone other than my boat for personalized groups, I would use Sea Turtle (Chuck) and Lochness (John L). Small groups work best out there for divers new to our area. The larger boats are not able to provide the one-on-one service that visiting divers appreciate. If I wanted to dive the Doria myself and wanted to be relieved of the work of running my own boat, I'd be happy aboard either of these boats. Secret: May and June are just as good as July and August... colder water, clearer, and just as good a weather chance. Don't bite off more than you can chew; I would discourage you from trying U-869 and Andrea Doria on the same trip. They are too far removed geographically to make a sensible pairing. Dave .

Which month is the best, which company / boat do you think is the most suitable. We plan to have a weeks diving holiday . Any other wrecks or places to visit. U-who maybe ? Dean Hi Dean, What it sounds like you are looking for is not only a boat but logistics. Going to the Andrea Doria is not like showing up for a Peter Hughes liveaboard. Most if not all of the boats that go to the Doria are set up for YOU providing everything you need. In most situations when traveling in you will need to make arrangements for sorb, bottles, gas, bail out, weights etc. You also need to consider that most Doria trips are 3 days at sea some go 4 but rarely more. You will need a day at the front and the back for getting to the boat, getting set up etc. The boats with the most experience to the Doria are the JohnJack and the Garloo (formerly Wahoo) Dave Sutton's Explorer is also set up for multi day. I've run many trips to the Doria and have managed all the logisitcs for clients. It's not an easy task but we seem to do it well. If you chose to do it alone make sure you detail out everything you want in advance so you know what you can expect. Also note that Doria trips are rarely cancellable once booked. So get all your details ahead of time. Note also that in the USA all the crews are not paid they are volunteers and work for tips, so make sure you plan a few extra hundred per person on your trip for some tips. Good luck -- PM me if you need a trip quote. Cheers JDS
