Nils,

Here's my two bob's worth. A rebreather friendly resort/live aboard is one that gives positive answers to the following questions (and delivers!):
Dive Profiles:-

Can you support a minimum of two dives per day, deep with long bottom times and long deco?

CO2 Absorbent:-

Can you supply CO2 absorbent? What mesh?

CCR Cylinders:-

Do you have 3 litre cylinders; can you supply2 litre cylinders for Evolutions? If not, are they available locally?

Bailout Cylinders:-

Can you provide standard & oxygen clean bailout cylinders?

Oxygen:-

Can you supply oxygen? To what purity? Can you boost oxygen cylinders to 232 bar?

Helium:-

Are you able to supply helium and boost trimix to 232 bar?

Surface Support:-

Do you have Rebreather experienced divers on staff?

Do you carry Rebreather spares and consumables (o-rings, batteries, sensors)?

Live aboards:-

Can you provide surface supplied oxygen to a deco station/trapeze?

Do you have a diver lift?

Do you post lookouts during diving in high current/high sea state/poor surface visibility conditions?

Do you have chase boats on standby during diving (live aboards only); do they carry radios; are they up to the job of diver location and recovery?

Do you have a 121.5 MHz (voice distress frequency) radio DF capability?
When you think about all of the above, it's not surprising that most resorts and liveaboards are simply not interested in rebreather divers. OC is a lot simpler both to manage and support.

Rgds,

Graham

Re: Definition of Rebreather Friendly?

we advertise MV Trident as Rebreather friendly, so lets see how we do.....

Here's my two bob's worth. A rebreather friendly resort/live aboard is one that gives positive answers to the following questions (and delivers!):
Dive Profiles:-

Can you support a minimum of two dives per day, deep with long bottom times and long deco?

yep, don't be silly, though.....

CO2 Absorbent:-

Can you supply CO2 absorbent? What mesh?

all you need, type depends on what we can get in Thailand

CCR Cylinders:-

Do you have 3 litre cylinders; can you supply2 litre cylinders for Evolutions? If not, are they available locally?

2L/3L, Steel/Alu, 90/180 degree valves, we can do , we have onboard

Bailout Cylinders:-

Can you provide standard & oxygen clean bailout cylinders?

yep, but you pay for any helium pumped
, no charge for tank rental or nitrox to 40%

Oxygen:-

Can you supply oxygen? To what purity? Can you boost oxygen cylinders to 232 bar?

USP grade to 200bar, no charge

Helium:-

Are you able to supply helium and boost trimix to 232 bar?

Yep! but charged by the litre/helium

Surface Support:-

Do you have Rebreather experienced divers on staff?

Experienced dealing with CCR, yes. diving the units, no - maybe one day

Do you carry Rebreather spares and consumables (o-rings, batteries, sensors)?

yes

Live aboards:-

Can you provide surface supplied oxygen to a deco station/trapeze?
yes

Do you have a diver lift?

maybe in Nov

Do you post lookouts during diving in high current/high sea state/poor surface visibility conditions?

surface cover, no matter what conditions

Do you have chase boats on standby during diving (live aboards only); do they carry radios; are they up to the job of diver location and recovery?

Absolutely!

Do you have a 121.5 MHz (voice distress frequency) radio DF capability?

you.ve got me there, but we have, VHF and shortwave coms

When you think about all of the above, it's not surprising that most resorts and liveaboards are simply not interested in rebreather divers. OC is a lot simpler both to manage and support.

depends how you look at it, the gas logistics of CCR compared to O/C is much simpler, and the O/C guys still need all the saftey /spares etc.

try loading a boat with enough gas for 12 O/C helium divers for a 8 day trip - doesn't work. CCR is easy and we don't trash compressors.

something else we provide is a clean A/C room with tools etc for repairs, and cold beer when you get frustrated.

we like you, don't worry!

Frits B (world's biggest rebreather diver) gave you a big wrap after his last trip, so you're on the list. One day!
