| Hi I am in the process of immigrating to Australia and am considering Brisbane as my number one destination. The most important factor that has to be considered is what the technical/rebreather diving oppertunities are like (Full Trimix; Wreck and some Cave will be a bonus) and natuarally all on a rebreather. It is clear from the research that I have done that there is plenty of diving but like normal the technical oppertunities are somewhat hidden. Also could any of the local operators be recomended and where am I going to get my gas and sorb and other odds and ends . Any assitance in this regard will be appreciated. Cheers Dries |

| Re: Technical/Rebreather Diving: Brisbane Australia I'm sure once Australia wakes up you'll get plenty more comments from the locals but if I were you I'd be looking rather at Sydney or Melbourne. Queensland's State Workplace safety Laws that govern the dive operators are very restrictive when it comes to rebreathers and technical diving. Not to say you wont find operators to take you out in Brisbane (try PMing Jason from D3 - I think he posts here occasionally) but I think you would find the southern states more accommodating and certainly closer to caves. Sydney and Melbourne both offer more accessible deep water wrecks and many more charter services to them. For a much better report on things out of Brisbane and in Australia generally, I'd post your question on the diveoz.com.au forums. Good luck |

| Re: Technical/Rebreather Diving: Brisbane Australia Hi Dries I also am emigrating from the sunny climes of South England to Brisbane way on the 19th August and am taking my Evo with me. I was asking the same question as you on the Dive Oz forum and had some good replies (please see link below). http://www.diveoz.com.au/discussion_...TOPIC_ID=18222 Things appear to be a bit scarce but I'm hoping that all will be ok. I don't have much choice on where to go as my girlfriend is Queensland through and through so we have to go there (is great there though so no complaints from me). Hope this helps and maybe see you over there on a dive boat some time? Cheers Stu |

| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Technical/Rebreather Diving: Brisbane Australia There is a group of rebreather divers in Brisbane who mostly dive off private boats so it's not a dead end. Almost all commercial dive boats aren't interested in taking breather divers out which is a bummer, but that's life!! It doesn't usually take too long for them to start showing up. ![]() There is some nice diving down there too so I am sure you'll enjoy your stay. Regards, Lance

PM sent regarding Wetsgat access seeing you are disappearing into the sunrise More like 66% I have only started the process, still have to do attorney crossover exams etc etc, it will take me a year or so. So we will be diving Wetsgat for some time still to come. The other 33% may disappear sooner. Cheers Dries |

| Re: Technical/Rebreather Diving: Brisbane Australia Commercial operators around the south east of Queensland who will take you out for a dive using a rebreather pretty well don't exist. There is one left in SE Qld now who will do it for the people he trusts - for all the other operators there is way too much government cr@p to make it worth while. And I do not blame them having been through the wringer myself with the government secret police. Head across the border to Byron Bay and you don't have a problem - it is just a totally different attitude. There is a small group of rebreather divers in Brisbane who dive as regularly as the weather allows. We tend to be pretty quiet and try not to attract attention. We use our own boats and have a small group of people we know who can look after themselves and not to do something stupid. We have a pretty good range of sites we dive and travel between the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast and further south across the border. If you are interested we might be able to help you out. Send me a note and when you get to Brisbane we can see what we can do.
