Need an August weeks trip recommendation

Need to GET AWAY for a week in August.

Have (2) divers needing to go rebreathering for a week. Prefer to find access to deeper water, wrecks a plus. Capable to 100 meters but not required for us to have fun. Want to find a LOW STRESS environment that is not riddled with C-Card-Nazi's (might have some experimental gear to dive and dunno about having all the cardboard to go with our plans).

Be nice to be able to go by Chevy Suburban from NJ (but not required).

Ideas:

Canada: 1000 Islands for a little bit, then move across to dive the Empress of Ireland, etc. Good operators anyone? Feedback?

North Carolina: Would need at least 5 days of charter spread out over a weeks time, not just on a recreational cattle-car like Olympus. Start shallow, end deep. Ideas?

Grand Cayman: Might just blow off the idea of driving, hop on the alu-tube, and fly down and dive. Need a low-stress operator who 'gets it' that we're going to dissapear and come back in a few hours... day after day for a week, and who understands that we don't want to be 'nannied'.

Other Caribbean locations? Florida?

????????

Dave

Re: Need an August weeks trip recommendation

Got a wreck trip here in Thailand, Plan on exploring some new marks which should bring up some interesting surprises. Wrecks will be in the 50-70 meter range.

Maybe a bit far to drive

Please don't tempt me... might actually be feasable. I'll talk to buddy.

Problem is that if I go to Thailand, I'll never want to come back.

Need any pilots there? I'm ready to pack it in and split.

Re: Need an August weeks trip recommendation

hey dude have you ever considered malta?

it is a long trip but you can have your share of deep dives from shore....and wrecks from 35 mt to 115 mt and more. the nice thing is that there still are deep unexplored wrecks to discover over 100 mt.

What's the weather and infrastructure there for Rebreather support?

Seattle's mighty nice in August. Some pretty good wreck trips happening this summer, too. Let me know if you're interested.

Re: Need an August weeks trip recommendation

you might need to chat with them to get your level of freedom, and maybe pay a little extra to get a boat of your own to use, but divetech/cobalt coast is pretty sweet and fits your bill.

tech week is in august tho and the wrek they have is well kinda well easy

be warned its not the place to go if you think you might chuck it all tho, i took my shield to my house so i would have to go back to ny, couldnt just walk away from it all, too easy to contemplate.

blew a head gasket or a piston ring today, will confirm in morning, boats really suck.

Re: Need an August weeks trip recommendation

May not be exactly what you are looking for, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention nonetheless, as you may want to consider it as an option.

Dave,

Talk to Johnny at Outer Banks Diving in Hatteras. I don't know if he'd be completely comfortable with your requirements, but its worth asking.
