You'd still have that long surface swim after the dive...

About 500 miles. This is why you need the puddle jumpers. The runway is just shy of 5000 feet, which allows turbo props and corporate jets to get in, but the jets can't get back out loaded to the hilt and have enough fuel to get anywhere other than Majuro.

Re: Bikini Atoll, how to save ops?

So it looks like live aboard is the only realistic choice... Maybe we should drop a line to Aggresor fleet?

If you want to support a operation that does not support CCR divers.

Re: Bikini Atoll, how to save ops?

Kwaj and Rongelap are closer... I seem to recall the Contrinental flight stopping there....

Perhaps get someone like the Thorfin to spend a month out of the year doing Bikini? Move the boat from Truk to MI, pick up folks at Kwaj or Rongelap, take them to Bikini....

Re: Bikini Atoll, how to save ops?

Majuro to Bikini is 430nm.

Continental stops in Kwajalein, yes.
Kwaj approx half way.
Problem with Kwaj is access to harbor, known to be difficult.

Anybody private who got permission to tie in there?

Runway on Bikini is NOT for Jets, no asphalt,
only suitable for props, too much sand and stones flying arround.

Rongelab is approx. 200nm with asphalt runway but approx. 500ft too short to land a 737 within liability laws.

Any frequent ops on Bikini would need to be ( partly at least )managed and under supervison of Bikini gov IMHO,
the wrecks are owned by the Bikinians.

Hoffi

CDNN is a well known missinformation source. You can bet the more absolute their claims the more likely the story has only small grains of truth. The Bikini web site has much more credible sounding information.
