What I really would like to know is what is the max current speed if can be safely dove? Thinking of heading there on Sat or Sun. As well does anyone know if there is any mooring buoys on it? Scott |

You just have to time the current and dive it on a slack, it is done all the time but it can be tricky. There are certain times of the year when it is best. I know Porthole Charters is usually diving on it all summer long.As well does anyone know if there is any mooring buoys on it? Scott There is no bouy on the wreck, you have to snag it. |

There are certain times of the year when it is best. I know Porthole Charters is usually diving on it all summer long. Once in a while, there's one tied in, but they're usually stolen or swept away. I've seen one once...but I wouldn't count on it.There is no bouy on the wreck, you have to snag it. Having a live boat is definitely best out there; I'm not sure I would want to do it any other way, since it's really easy to misjudge the currents, and what things are on the surface are not always reflected down on the wreck...and vice versa. Last time I dove it, I was fine on the bottom, but after the final 15' deco stop, it took both hands with all my strength to crawl the upline to the float tied in on the surface. The boat (Porthole) maneuvered downstream and "caught" me for pick up as I went sailing by. ![]() Depending on how things are, sometimes you can get a little shelter on the back side of the wreck, and sometimes, you're kind of toasted no matter where you are. It's basically just out in the Strait, off of Tongue Point, so watch the exchange, and time it well. |
