Confiscated in Mexico!

For some reason, Cancun Airport seems to be cracking down on all sorts of things lately. On an expedition in January, for the first time ever, they stopped us because of our camera gear. Apparently, under Mexican law, a traveler is only allowed to bring two camera bodies into the country.

Some members of our party had been coming to Mexico for a decade with three or more camera bodies and never had a problem until this trip. We did manage to get through with out gear and not paying any extra fees or taxes, but it took about 20 minutes of very tense negotiations.

It's hard to believe that anyone would think we would have been taking used cameras into Mexico to sell --but that seemed to be what the customs agent was implying.

I would think that anyone flying into Cancun be prepared for a real anal probe at customs.
