| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | TEXEL overnight trip (New Jersey) There are a few open spaces for a trip to the TEXEL July 26-28 2008 on the Independence II out of Pt. Pleasant, NJ. This Dutch freighter was sunk by the U-151 on June 2nd, 1918 "Black Sunday" along with 5 other ships including the well known passenger liner S.S. CAROLINA. The TEXEL (220 fsw) has only been dove a handful of times (see Brad Sheard's article in WDM issue 10) due to the distance from shore and the popularity of the nearby CAROLINA and has great artifact potential. This trip departs Saturday evening and returns Monday evening for a total of 3 dives (weather and conditions permitting). Cost is $550. Feel free to contact myself via PM or Capt. Dan Bartone directly with questions. Info on the dive vessel: Deep Expeditions More info on the Texel and Black Sunday

![]() | Re: TEXEL overnight trip (New Jersey) I found this thread through a Google search on the Texel. My grandfather was on that ship, he was one of the crewmen (Third Engineer) that day when the Germans boarded. May I ask a favor? If you take any pictures of the Texel, may I have copies? If you collect any artifacts, may I have pictures of them? This isn't to contest any artifacts you may collect--hell, I have the key to my grandfathers cabin that was in his pocket when the crew left the ship and it isn't corroded--I'd just like to see them. There isn't a lot of information available on the Texel, and I'd just like to see what you see. If you PM me I will give you my email address. Thanks. |
