| Information on Bari Harbor, Italy? What can you share about diving in Bari Harbor in Italy? There's not a great deal of information out there on the bombing or sunken ships. There's anecdotal information that liquid mustard gas is still encoutered on rescue/salvage dives in the harbor. Anyone with clear information about ships, depths, permissions? Anything at all? Any diving done there or has any been done in the past? My understanding is that 17 allied ships were sunk by German bombers and I can find none that were removed. I'd like to know more about it even if only to scratch the location off of the list. Thanks, Paul |

| Re: Information on Bari Harbor, Italy? Same goes for information on the Italian battleship Roma apparently sunk near the island of Asinara.. The Roma was sunk off La Maddelena; lies in 300 m ('ish) of water. Go to The Sinking of the Battleship Roma for a very good summary of what happened. Thanks, Paul Pity it's not diveable. One of the best-looking ships ever built. Graham |

| Re: Information on Bari Harbor, Italy? There was a TV show on HD about this reccently. Called- Buried at Sea. Canadian production. Also called European Pearl Harbor. It seems from what the show was saying that the Allied forces were ready to use chemical weapons if need be. Hence alot of product was made and never used. At least one ship in Bari was loaded with chem weapons and was hit, burned and sunk. Unfortunatly, the Italian government has in intention to do anything about the situation. I found a few things by seaching for "buried at Sea" "Bali Harbor" and "european Pearl Harbor." Because of the way search engines work I would plug it through google and then through Yahoo. Yahoo tends to find more native things in its search profile. If I have a chance I will see if I can dig any more up. Links- NFB - Collection - Buried at Sea http://www.planetinfocus.org/files/p...ied-At-Sea.pdf It is a real shame that we can make such weapon platforms yet never take the time to produce a neutilizing method at the same time. | Re: Information on Bari Harbor, Italy? I have been diving this area looking for all these famous wrecks like Vivaldi, Da Noli, ... Once, we dove what was supposed to be the Da Noli, but in fact it was the Cromarty. This British minesweeper hit a mine and sunk on september 1943 23rd. Another time we dove an old battleship which seems to be the Cassini (french WW1 croiseur), but still not Italian fleet. So, there are still a lot to discover. |
