Rebreather diving in the Galapagos?? Hey everyone, I am new to Rebreathers and was excitedly anticipating diving silent in the Galapagos islands when much to my dismay I have been told by the three major companies that have the needed permits to dive Wolfe and Darwin islands do not welcome or allow Rebreathers divers on their boats. I was told that I was welcome to dive OC.. !?! Whats the deal? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Rebreather diving in the Galapagos?? ![]() It's a real shame. I was lucky enough to dive Wolf and Darwin on CCR in October. Probably the last person to do it on an Aggressor. They only allowed it because the trip was booked before the ban was implimented. Too bad. It was incredible!!! Try writing, calling or emailing the sales managers of the companies. Numbers talk but don't hold your breath. They feel they have more than enough business without allowing Rebreather's. Run silent, run deep. Jim

| Re: Rebreather diving in the Galapagos?? Yep, tis a shame. Dived the Galapagos with my Mk 15.5 in August of 2005 on the Sky Dancer, which no longer allows rebreathers. I think you would need to hire your own research ship and obtain permits to do it now. Marrying an Ecuadorian would probably be much cheaper if you want to dive it more than once. The closest thing I could find to the Galapagos is Malpelo, which is why I am going there this summer. There is still room on the July/August trip on the Inula. Much cheaper, rebreather dedicated. Don't have to hang out with OC divers which is the one thing that tempered my enjoyment/utilization of my CCR in the Galapagos back in 2005.

Re: Rebreather diving in the Galapagos?? underseahunter.com is also a good operation for going to Malpelo and Cocos Islands and they are CCR friendly. I would highly recommend them.

Re: Rebreather diving in the Galapagos?? I remember reading an article a while back that the Aggressor fleet was no longer going to allow rebreathers due to liability and the lack of trained staff equipped to deal with them. Or something like that!
