![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | SS Thorfinn Liveaboard Truk Lagoon I had quite a good experience on this Liveaboard. Not cheap, but quality O2, and competent staff, and fantastic wreck diving, of course. They already have a number of AP Rebreather tanks (fortuneately I can adapt these onto the Meg, not sure about other makes though). Truk Lagoon Wreck Diving aboard the SS Thorfinn In Micronesia This follows from a mishap where the ship nearly sunk after colliding with a reef. Would like to make another visit. |

The existing 2-stage steamer is easily over-hauled (if it was needed). This is a very cool feature of this ship. Quite enjoyable to listen to and feel the "heartbeat" of the powerful steam engine of this Liveaboard. |

I forgot that it was steam powered. I operated steam powered ships in the navy. Now I have to go on the Thorfinn! The existing 2-stage steamer is easily over-hauled (if it was needed). It is truly great diving, within the lagoon no currents, and would be easy to set up and stage bailout for looooong Rebreather dives within the 70 some WWII wrecks (mostly 5000-~12000 ton size). |

I too have enjoyed a trip aboard the thorfinn on more than one occassion.. The first time I had to bring my tanks and arrange for sorb, but the last trip was a breeze..Truk Lagoon Wreck Diving aboard the SS Thorfinn In Micronesia This follows from a mishap where the ship nearly sunk after colliding with a reef. ![]() | Re: SS Thorfinn Liveaboard Truk Lagoon Thorfinn has been or is about to have its refit completed in Batangas in the Philippines after hitting a reef last year. I enjoyed my time on her last January, I thought she was the cheaper of the live aboards in Chuuk, but more versitile. Captain Lance does add to the experience with his sea faring tales. Would love to head back and dive aboard the Thorfinn again. Once you have dived the wrecks of Chuuk its pretty hard to find better. Cheers John

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: SS Thorfinn Liveaboard Truk Lagoon Glad she's on the mend at Batangas. I loved her engine room, it's like stepping onto the past!! I also enjoyed Lance's excellent pre dive briefings and his stories. Dive safe, Celia PS If you are going half around the world the plane fare alone is expensive, the cost of a good liveaboard is peanuts when you consider what you spent on your Rebreather anyway....
