Cant remember who asked.... about traveling with lime to egypt costing wise compared to buying localy even as lime aint cheap in Egypt.


Well i am off to Dahab end of april for 12 days gas diving, i can source lime out there for 15 euro's per kilo. So all in all about £28 per fill.....ouch!!!!

So i have looked into costs for taking my own over.

Thomsons fly, will charge me £70 per 10 kilo excess 1 way (outbound only) if prebooked. Cost at airport will be £90 (£9 per kilo)

Factor lime at UK costs at roughly £3.25 per kilo, so UK cost of £30 for 10 Kg's of lime plus £70 excess brings the total To £102.50 for lime shiped.

Compared to buying localy at 15 euros per kilo, 10x15= 150 euros, which divided by 1.3 (rough exchange rate) so converted costs to UK pounds is £115.

So all in all it's hardly worth bothering with all the effort of lumping 10kilos of lime round the airport for a grand total of £13 saving.

So as i have 25KG's hold allowance plus 5kg hand luggage, and on arrivel at the airport with showing my divers card i will be awarded an extra 5kg's giving me 30 hold plus 5kg hand i will just have to see how much lime i can squeeze in my allowance of 35kg's x 2 (me and wife, but both have dive kit, albeit her OC rec gear ways a lot less than my unit and full tech gear) and be happy with that, then just bite the bullet and pay for the remainder of lime over there.
