Well, besides apart from all the Rebreather stuff. Please don't hang everywhere a "begging letter" for the guests to leave a tip at the end of the trip.

The reason I am commenting on that, I have been on a dive trip where the operator left everywhere (Kitchen, Cabins, even on the inside of the bathroom door) notes on how important it is to leave tips and how underpaid the poor dive masters are....blah blah blah. This was actually a real turn-off and I told them that.

Good service will yield a good tip. (No begging needed)

My 2 cents,

RBN

One year ago, we went to dive trip in Thailand. Because there were 12 of us (9 with CCRs) the owner was kind enough to gave us one dedicated boat and one dedicated guide/divemaster for us.

When we first meet the guide, he gave us long speech entitled " Proper wreck penetration techniques at the depth of 125 meters" followed by monologue by the title of " Heliox usage for cave diving for dives deeper than 125 meters" Later we found out this guide got certified with his open water (As in PADI OW)certification 4 years after we earned our trimix certification.

The moral of the story: Owners of the resort need to make sure that they hire people with experienced. (Or at least know hot to deploy SMB properly )

Re: Research for a new resort.....Feedback Wanted

The resort must have something worth diving! That means being close to decent structures (like wrecks or caves or reefs) or knowing how to get the best from marine animals (where they are and when, how to avoid frightening them away).
After all - that's why we dive! It boils down to plenty of local knowledge.

After that, safety is the number one. If you provide decent fills, people will have more onboard gas. If you provide Helium, deeper dives get safer. If you provide appropriate bailout bottles, well, people will have appropriate bailout. If the gear all arrives intact or can be easily repaired/replaced then there's no 'making do', which is safer. Easy entry and exit from the water is safer. You get the idea. A happy diver is normally a safer diver.

Personally one of the most pleasant things to get on a trip is a decent flat surface high enough up to avoid me straining my back hunched over prepping the unit on the deck.

Food and drink - personally I don't care. It just mustn't make me ill.

And finally, many people make longer trips as a couple: so something for the bubble-watcher is pretty important.
