Accomodation HELP! In playa -Mexico

Hi all

Matt@ Protech is planing a trip to do some cave diving with Matt@ Protec and need some advise on a good place to stay near his facility. I will be traveling with my wife and two year old daughter. We are looking for somthing thats good standard with pool but not 5-star. Sould we go al inclusive or opt for a smaller guest house.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

cheers

Re: Accomodation HELP! In playa -Mexico

There's a cheapish hotel near the Mexican Protec place (2 minutes just down the street and around the corner (Don't remember the name). I think we paid about 60$. My wife and I stayed there. Might be a bit rough given you're with child, but I/we normally stay in 4-5 star places, so am a bit spoiled.

If you go there, make sure you take the room on the ground floor, and right on the side nearest the office. The other room we had (nearer the middle) had an aircon that was noisier than a freight train, but was only 40$.

Upon my return to Playa, I will probably try to find bigger and better. May even buy a condo if the price is right.

Re: Accomodation HELP! In playa -Mexico

When I'm in PDC with family, I find its not only less expensive but better accomodations to rent a condo for a week. I usually pay about $1000 for a week at a nice one bedroom with big kitchen, fold out in LR for our son, gated, pool, et.c. The Royal Palms (call Nikki at 52-984-2754) is right on 5th Ave, but a bit far from Mat & Moms. There are several web sites (Ex: Loco Gringo) that list a number of Condos available.

If you plan on a car and don't mind about 15 minutes drive check out Scuba Mex Dive Shop Paamul Mexico. Safe reef dives in the Mexican Caribbean south of Cancun, near Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Akumal and Tulum, Mexico They are in Paamul and it is a nice and reasonably priced place to stay. Very close to some cenotes. Casa Willis is ~ $80 US/night. Owners have been there for years and can trouble shoot anything. The owner is a retired dentist from TX and the operation manager owned a dive store for many years in the US. Both have been in the Mexican Riviera now for over 15 yrs.

Hey Matt,
You are aware that Protec is situated in a reasonable hotel? Moms has nice rooms and is well priced and the Protec crew were managing it last time I was there.
When are you going to be there. I will be there mid January. I have been meaning to talk to you about my upcoming Thailand trip.

You might try emailing Dai Jones on daicashpoint at yahoo dot com. He sorted out something for me last time I was there and knows the guys at Protec. See also underworldadventures.com

You need to stay here. This hotel was very clean, quite, gated and locked at night for security, close to protec (two blocks), about 3-4 block to the main drag. I think the rooms ranged from $50 -85 USD a night.

I don't think that Moms hotel is in a desirible area for his 2 year old and wife. I think its a good place to stay if one was going alone or everybody in the party was cave diving.
