| Rebreather friendly boats in Southern Cali I am going to be in S Cal in late Feb early Mar, and want to dive. Perhaps Catalina or the channel Islands. Any Recommendations on boats and/or sites?

| Re: Rebreather friendly boats in Southern Cali The Second Stage is very rebreather friendly and can be checked out here. The Sand Dollar has been rebreather friendly historically, but it would be a good idea to talk to the group doing the chartering first -- Sand Dollar link. List of california dive boats here. |

| Re: Rebreather friendly boats in Southern Cali I dived the Sand Dollar in August with my Mk 15.5, but note that captain George would not let me bring my booster on board. It is a wooden boat and he is a little touchy about O2 fires. As such, I had to bring an 80 of O2 that I rented from Andy Huber of Ocean Adventures Dive Shop, and do fills off of that. In hindsight, I should have rented two 80s and done cascade fills. After the leader of the group (DIR people from Dive Utah) who charted the boat watched how I operated for a bit and got to know my style, they did not have too much of a problem with me doing hours-long solo dives. Yes, best to check with the group that is doing the charter. If CCR flies with them, you should have no problem, assuming you do not mind cascade filling.

How is the diving in feb/mar? Catalina will get you some depth. Channel Islands you will have a hard time getting to much deeper than 30m. However if you want a great Channel Islands dive trip book the private No-Respect Capt. Lou will take you to some outstanding places in the Channels Scuba Diving the Channel Islands Boat Charters NITROX Movie Television Documentary Underwater Film Video Locations Sightseeing Charters Harbor Cruzing Cheers

| Re: Rebreather friendly boats in Southern Cali Over the past month I having been exchanging emails and phone calls with Rusty @ Welcome to Scuba Schools Of America If you contact him I'm sure he can get you set up. 1-888-99-SCUBA I hope to get a few people together from here in Minnesota and make the trip out that way. I believe they will even pick up at the airport. I purchased a Inspiration Vision from Rusty. Now I'm just waiting for the UPS guy to show up. So I better get back out on the front step so I don't miss him .Al Last edited by ScubaAl : 6th January 2008 at 15:49. |

| Re: Rebreather friendly boats in Southern Cali Psalty V and 2nd Stage both go to Catalina and are very rebreather friendly. They are both 6 packs with nice salons to relax in on the way over and back. As Joel said, Catalina will allow you to do some deep reefs. The Great Escape has been on again off again on rebreathers so you should check if that is your choice. It is a much bigger boat. The Sea Bass is a 12 pack and also goes to Catalina. All three go to the southern oil rigs which are great dives. For the northern islands you have the raptor and the peace. Both are bigger boats. While it is less likely you will go where you can get deep, the northern islands will give you a different ecology as the water is coldr. Expect good visibility, and 50 degree F water but end of February, early March is also our rainy season so the weather might not be amenable. Unless there is a specific goal in mind, there is no reason to do a multi-day. Everything is pretty much within a few hours of motoring. Jerry |
