| Senegal - Does Anyone Have Any Info? I have been given the chance to go out and commission a site in Senegal and was wondering if anyone had dived there? The winter sun would come in handy and if there's diving to be had then I'll take the site. Would like to take the rebreather out there but think that may be asking a bit much unless I can ship some lime out and get some O2 over there. Does anyone have any experience with the place? Thanks. |

| Re: Senegal - Does Anyone Have Any Info? I spent some time in Dakar in 2002 and 2004 for work and did some diving whilst I was there. Couple of nice wrecks, the Thiwa and Charbonnier were ok. Both in about 30 metres. Some nice fish life. Diving is done from small pirogues, basically an oversized canoe with an outboard. Make sure you take head gear to protect you for the sun as you are in an open boat, and something to keep the wind off as it can get quite chilly. Visibility is better the further out you go. Water temps in Feb/Mar were about 12 degs. I was not diving a rebreather at the time so not sure about that side of things. The centre I used was fairly old and run down, but the people were extremely friendly. It was run by a french ex-pat. It will help A LOT if you speak French. I'm sure you could get o2 locally if you tried, but i'd forget the possibility of hiring cylinders or sorb. My recommendation is to take all you need (including suit) and dive OC hiring their 10 litre cyls and weights only.
