| Italian expedition to the Jolanda wreck; 16th Oct. '07 Hi all, I’m just the voice of some friends that are managing an expedition in the Red Sea. The expedition is during this week at Shark and Jolanda Reef, close to Sharm el Sheik. The mission is to find the Jolanda wreck. The explorers are: Lorenzo Del Veneziano and Gigi (Luigi) Casati, two Italian sea explorers. Today there has been the first deep dive, the two explorers have reached the deep of -173 meters, with a runtime of 240 minutes. Lorenzo has used a Megalodon and Gigi a Voyager. They have used cave techniques, so they have used a “rope” from the surface to the maximum deep; the rope hase been positioned up to 115 meters by the assistants and on it there has been placed the safety tanks. The "deep assistants" were Gianluca Bozzo, with a Megalodon, and Lorenzo Stucchi, with a Buddy, at the deep of -115 meters. The explorers have found about ten containers and scattered pieces of the Jolanda bow on the reef. During the way back the anchor has been found on the reef. Unfortunately the explorers have not been able to take any picture because the camera exploded at about -150 meters. The second deep dive is planned for Thursday 18th, if they’ll ask me I’ll try to write here the short report as today. … excuse me if the description is not rich or appealing, but I’m not a tech diver and I don’t want to give wrong information … they’ll write directly to you on their way back! See you for the next report. |

| Re: Italian expedition to the Jolanda wreck; 16th Oct. '07 Hi forum divers, here I am, back again with the last news on this expedition! This time I direclty translate the message of Lorenzo, so ... here it is: Quote: I really thank all the forum people that followed our adventure! As for the result of the expedition, these are the results: •More than 32.000 squared meters of reef have been explored •329 meters of rope have been unrolled (starting from 20 meters to top) •Maximum deep: 206 – 211 meters •Complete mapping of the diving site, with the support of drowing, short films and pictures •Found a big number of wreckage everywhere: sheet metal, deck structures, containers, one cistern, some pieces of the engine (- by elesub - my fault , I don’t know the English words) at 211 meters, the two wreck anchors (one at 68 meters, the other at 170 meters) During the expeditions there has been done 10 dives under 70 meters; more in details: •Luigi Casati: 173mt- 211 mt •Lorenzo del Veneziano: 166mt-175mt •Gianluca Bozzo and Lorenzo Stucchi: 115mt- 122mt •Andrea Pizzato: 80mt Except for Andrea, all the divers were with CCR. During the whole expedition we have not had any physical problem. The decompressive software used have been: rgbm and vr3 I really thank the attention and professionalism of Doctor Adel, of the Sharm hyperbaric chamber and Dr. Leandro Astolfi, whom guaranteed the safety during the decompression and the tranquility of all the team during the whole expedition. All the people of the team have actively contributed to make this adventure possible and successful, also thank to the economic participation of the sponsors. Special thanks to Gigi, fellow traveler of many adventures, real friend and great diver! Ciao Lorenzo |
