Rebreather World Family Trip

Dear all,

I got a bunch of emails and pms with regards to trips to say hey I would love to come but I only get xx days vacation time and it realy should be spent with the family.

Well we did some thinking and have come up with a plan!

We will be running a Rebreather World Family Trip next August or September to Grand Cayman specifically staying at the Cobalt Coast resort and diving with Dive Tech.

They are totally rebreather friendly and have all the gas and sofnolime we could need. But maybe more importantly it is a great place to go if you only dive recreaitonal o/c or dont even dive at all.

The hotel is great with very nice rooms and suites, it has a pool area, hot tub and snorkeling right off the front. there is plenty to do on the island if family members can not be tempted to dive or a try dive including:

  • Fishing - Bone, Reef, Deep Sea
  • Submarines - Deep Sub (800' and 1000') or Atlantis Sub (100') - (The deep dive is very, very cool!)
  • Pedro St. James Historical Castle Tour & Theatre
  • Duty Free Shopping - Georgetown
  • Cayman Turtle Farm Tour & Boatswains Beach Marine Park
  • Mastic hiking trail (2 - 4 hours)
  • Queen Elizabeth Botanical Gardens Tour
  • Butterfly Farm
  • Rum Point Ferry, Beach, Snorkeling, Restaurant & Bars
  • Bat Caves exploration - North Side
  • Spas - Westin, Hyatt, Ritz... all options available daily
  • Watersports - kayaks, Pico sailboats, jet skis, parasailing
  • Evening Sunset Cruises - Booze Cruise - Sunset Sail - Dinner Cruises
  • Jolly Roger Pirate Boat Sail
  • Shore Snorkeling - @ Divetech's shops & Georgetown
  • Beach Horseback Riding
  • Golf - 3 great Golf courses on island
  • 2 great Gyms/fitness clubs for those who wish to work out!
  • Sailing lessons - Cayman Islands Sailing Club
  • Sailboat maxi-sailing-yachts racing class charters (day trips)
  • Bicycle tours
  • Baby-sitting services available!
  • Kids water-based snorkel and dive programs
Plus for us divers there is everything from diving with your bubbling loved one, to arranged technical dives on the Carrie Lea wreck and if you ask real nice I will show you the ledge where Sarah and I got engaged at 340 feet!

So this is a heads up but what I need some feedback on is if last week in august or an early week in September would make any difference to you?

Hi Stuart,

This has potential to be possible for the Cooper household.

Last week of August would be good but September if necessary. Would not be able to commit until early next year though.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Stuart-

Idea definitely has potential. Think “group rates!!”

For stuff to do, you overlooked the Stingray Brewery ;-) - hopefully it’s still there.

Timing: The later in the year the better. For those of us living in colder climates, it’s tough to justify traveling to warm water when we have the few months out of the year w/ warm water at home. We tend to save the big $$$ travel for when our spirits seek sunshine and our bones need thawing out. Also, many vacation schedules get locked in by employers a long time in advance, so the sooner you fix whatever date you settle on, the greater the chance of wide participation.

Good luck,
Ken

Stuart,
Living in S. Florida, we're intensely aware of hurricane seasons when making travel plans. August will have a better chance of not being blown out than September.

Looks like last week in august gets the most votes I will contact Nancy and ask her to pencil that date in.
