| Pirates Cove in the Dominican Republic I want to thank Uwe Rath of Pirates Cove Dive Center in the Dominican Republic for a great week of Rebreather diving. Uwe and his staff went out of their way to make this a great week for me. They have O2 boosted to whatever pressure you require (Jetsam booster), Sofolime, and lots of Faber LP 19s and 12s. Gear cleaning and overnight storage area takes the pain out of commuting back and forth with gear, and roomy shower/changing rooms with lockable guest lockers for your high value items (although I got the sense that you could leave your new gold Rolex laying around and it would stay right where you left it.) The reefs are colorful, the wrecks interesting (lots to do from from 70-180 fsw - and deeper, if you have the certs) and the vis typically very good. The boats have nice uncluttered gear-up tables just right for RBs, and the staff is always there to clip and unclip bail out bottles for you. The ‘oil platform’ turned out to be an abandoned underwater pumping station – the first I have seen. Post dive; the beach bar has a great view of the beach, the boats and the occasional nice “stroll-by”. Wireless internet access is available. When they get the building finished and have overnight rooms for divers on-premises, it will be just about perfect. And a special thanks to Francisco, Uwe’s trusty number 2 – and my frequent ‘doubles’ dive buddy. Uwe, you gotta get Francisco cert’d on RBs… NB: prices are very reasonable. Thanks, Uwe John |
