B-29 Dive Site Dives Beginning Now

DIVE THE B-29 BOMBER

After lying on the bottom of Lake Mead for 50 years this exciting dive site is about to be opened on a limited basis for divers to see.

Since the discovery of the sunken B-29 Bomber in Lake Mead in August 2002 the wreck site has fallen under a Special Diving Restriction preventing visitation by the general public. This is not an undue hardship to the general public as this site has / had significant historical importance and has been designated a submerged cultural resource. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area has been designated as the custodian of the B-29.

The National Park Service has documented the wreck site and have conducted appropriate archeological studies on the site including measurement surveys, documentation with both still and video imaging. They have determined that the site is stable and not under imminent danger of destruction by the elements.

Considering that archeological and documentation have been completed the National Park Service is embarking on opening up the wreck site of the B-29 so that qualified individuals can visit the dive site with permitted escorts.

The National Park Service recently selected Scuba Training and Technology Inc. (Tech Diving Limited) as one of the two dive companies authorized to conduct Guided Technical Dives on the B-29 Overton Dive Site.
Our Commercial Use Authorization (CUA-LAME-5300-07-095 ) begins on July 15th and we will begin running trips on July 21st.

The CUA is highly restrictive during this initial phase and only 104 dives are authorized under the permit.

Scuba Training and Technology Inc. was chosen for this special CUA because we are a a fully insured recreational and technical diving company. We are uniquely qualified to conduct the diving operations, education, and guide service on the B-29. Our experience in technical diving, technical dive training, education, expeditions, underwater archeology, shipwreck exploration and conservation is unmatched in the Southwest Region. We have conducted research on many of the major shipwrecks in the United States including the USS Monitor (permit only), Andrea Doria, Wilkes Barre, the Lexingon, RMS Republic, and the co-discovery of the B-36 Bomber in San Diego.

If you are interested in visiting this historical and exciting wreck site please visit our website for more information and reservation links at:

http://www.divetheb29.com

We are proud to have been chosen for this service.

Lake Mead is near Las Vegas. We have many clients who fly in for the weekend for diving. We can provide Gas, Sorb, cylinders etc.

We hope you can join us.

Regards,

Joel -

I will be in the Las Vegas area August 6-11, but see you do not have any availability then. Are there any other options available to be able to dive the B-29 during that time? What about the PBY Catalina as an alternative?
