![]() | Jan 2008 Revillagidedos Is./Socorro I had a great time on the Nautilus Explorer in the middle of Jan this year. Hammerheads, Manta Rays and a couple of brief Tiger shark sightings. Anyone going in Jan 2008 (or Feb?) on CCR? I was the only person on a rebreather last time, which meant a lot of diving on my own and one hour dives. It's a very rebreather friendly boat (skipper dives a meg). Anyone going early next year? Nautilus Explorer Scuba Diving Liveaboard and destination adventures - |

![]() | Re: Jan 2008 Revillagidedos Is./Socorro I was thinking of doing a cold water trip with the Nautilus next summer, any recommendations of an itinerary that covers the main sights in one trip? I was thinking perhaps of the trip starting in Juneau Alaska and ending in Vancouver (where I have friends). |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Jan 2008 Revillagidedos Is./Socorro Are the Socorro Islands reefs or is it just big fish in the open blue ocean There are reefs, but not with the diversity of more tropical reefs. Tropical reefs support a fraction of the biomass of these islands, however, and with that greater biomass in the Revillagigedos you get to see a higher rate of food chain turnover. Because the Pacific is now well into a La Nina southern oscillation weather pattern, you can expect the biomass this year to be greater than average. More westerly-flowing surface winds drives greater upwelling which provides more nutrients for the food chain. Expect the water to be a wee bit cooler as a result of that increased upwelling from the deep. The big animal action should be nothing other than outstanding in January.
