| Hi, I hope the Mods don't mind me opening this up to RBW members. Skye Trip August 2007 3 Places need filling. What is it then? There are 3 spaces left on a trip organised for 6 days diving on the Isle of Skye. The Organiser has booked the two boats which are based out of Lochaline in the Sound of Mull. They are the Peragrine and the Brendan, two very capable and well known boats (and Skippers) to Sound of Mull divers. They both have on-board compressors with Clean Air and O2 can be arranged for nitrox/rebreathers divers (of which there are already a few on the trip). Lochaline Boat Charters - Welcome When is it? The diving is Sunday 12th August to Friday 17th August 2007 inclusive. This comprises of ~3 dives a day. OK, so where are we going to stay? The accommodation is on The Isle of Skye, north of Uig in Coastguard cottages at Duntulm. The accommodation starts Saturday night, 11th Aug to Saturday morning, 18th Aug. The cottages are Self Catering Accommodation Self Catering Accommodation on Skye - Skye Cottage Holidays What is all this going to cost then? The cost is £299, that’s boat charter and accommodation! You only have to find money for air (usually £2.50 per fill) and food, oh and DrinkJ. There is a local hotel which serves evening meals just over the field here: http://www.duntulmcastle.co.uk/ and there are supermarkets for the more frugal amongst you, in Portree, which is on the way. The organiser has restricted the number of places to 9 on each boat. This means there is loads of space on the boat and the accommodation is very comfortable, with divers not crammed in to cupboards etc.. J Those booked on the trip already are from a group of Online divers from ww.yorkshire-divers.com We’re a mixed bunch who love to dive and are a very social bunch, from around the UK. For those who are interested in this trip please contact John Mitchell [pm me for his mobile] 40 CHILTERN RISE BRINSWORTH ROTHERHAM S60 5JT This trip has been organised and origianlly posted on Yorkshire-divers I won't put a link incase it offends the Mods, but searching in Google should bring it up. Then navigate to the Planned Trips section. If you don't want to Call John you can post on the thread there. Skye a pre-able… This is a lovely Island. The diving is in the Northwest of Skye, off the west coast of Scotland. The diving is from Sunday to Friday (6 days diving) which leaves loads of time to get up there if like me) your living in southerner land. Its a 6 hour drive from Edinburgh. The drive is a fantastic journey as you see a lot of the highlands, glens and lochs on the way. We're staying over in Edinburgh and if you got up there on Friday evening you could even take in a show as the Edinburgh festival is also on, as its August. The waters are Crystal Clear !! The beaches are mostly white shellfish which means the vis is fantastic. We have dived twice out of Loch Lochy Bay in Stein just round the coast with Gordon. The dives were wonderful, varied and the waters round there are very clear and full of life. The sites are varied and there are a few wrecks locally. We had lots of seafood which we caught on the dives, including Scallops, Crabs, Lobsters and Squat Lobsters, The boats. The boats are the two run out of Lochaline, by Alan and Dave, both experienced Skippers. They have clean air, and as John has indicated O2 is available on request. There are rebreathers on this trip so don't think its just a novice trip but then on the other hand there are lots of sites which cater far all, new and old sea dogs. We dived off the light house off from Lower Milovaig where you could virtually pick your depth. Also from Lower Milovaig we dived the SS Chadwick, whose bell was discovered last summer, so there may still be spidge on there!! The accommodation is typically Scottish and cosy. I've not stayed in this accommodation personally but on the whole the accommodation in Skye is very nice. On these sorts of remote trips the 'crack' is great, especially when the liquid gets flowing! This is really a peaceful place to relax, and I'm taking the family & staying nearby (so you won't be woken). Skye is an idyllic Island and the scenery is wonderful, ranging from Mountains to beaches. There is a Scottish Whiskey Distillery if the wind blows a day out. If your living in Scotland and have not yet dived Skye, (or even if you have) this is in your back garden and a chance not to be missed. |
