red sea - divesorb

hey guys,

im off to the red sea for a week shortly to clock up a few dives on my inspiration vision rebreather,
ive enquired bout getting sofnoline 797D however all they say they can offer me is the draeger divesorb.
shallow enough diving i reckon i needed about 20-25kg sofnolime

my question is am i right in saying that i will need 1/4 (or is it 1/3??)more divesorb than sofnolime for the inspiration therefore 25-32kg divesorb?

thanks in advance,

hi sisco

i have never used dreagersorb, but looking at the specs i would properly cut the use a bit shorter than sofnolime.

25 kg in sorb is a lot of stuff, this would give you 10 scrubberfills. this might be more than you actually need for a week. ( one fill per day, 3 hours diving per day ? - 7 fills - 15kg ?) or do i miss something in my calculation.

As far as i know the official recom. of apvalaves is 3 hours per scrubber fill on the classic inspo. with the vision your tempstick should give a some sort of indication what the lifespam of your sorb is.

Therefore many divers do run their sorb longer than three hours per fill.
But this is entirely up to the divers discretion and his/her own risk/responsibility.

I would think that you should be fine with 15 kg of sorb for seven days (in particular if it is shallow diving and you wont repack the scrubber for each dive), to put a bit on safety on top if it 20 kg should do the trick.

But these are only my .02, you might want to refill teh scrubber more often, or have heaps of contin.

Cheers
christian

Re: red sea - divesorb

sorry yeah
that supply was for 2 divers so 12.5 each for the week
ie 5 fills each - this should be adequate adding in the warm water + temp stick

what i wanted to know is what percentage should i add for the useage of the divesorb
ie it is not as absorbant as the 8/12 mesh therefore i will need more of it

ok,

i would get the data sheet and compare the CO2 absorption rate of both sorbs and than adjust accordingly. Plus add some extra due to teh bigger mesh size as this will influence the absorption kinetics negatively.

We had the same problem few months back. Did a five day liveaboard from hurghada and all we could get was draeger sorb. If i remember correcly it was five or six fills from one canister.

Tekstreme in Sharm have it too. RSDC are good to go with, used them last year and they have 797. mail them both.

Re: red sea - divesorb

I've had three hours out of a fill of Dragersorb in warm water on the inspo and a friend on the same trip ran right down to the alarm and got nearly five hours in an evo. I'm not brave enough to bother going beyond three.

hi nigel
i am not sure if it is brave at all to go to the sorb exhausted alarm of the temp stick.
I would agree with your practice and discharge the sorb after 3-4 hours regardless.
That stuff is not that expensive to risk a co2 breakthrough. Furthermore I don't think that the tempstick is so reliable to push the sorb that much.

But these are only my .02
cheers

Re: red sea - divesorb

If you're coming to Hurghada or Sharm then Tekstreme Diving at Emperor Divers have a large supply of the 797 sorb at both centres.
Just contact either centre and we can help you out.
It's 11 euros/kg
Cheers!
