| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Diving in Northeast America Hi all, I posted a few weeks ago about diving in the New Jersey area. My travel plans have changed a bit since then as I will now be based in Albany, New York during the week. I am not sure where would be the place I could go to get some good wreck diving. I am planning on to diving on the 21/22 April, 28/29 April, 5/6 May. I will have a rental car sorted so I don’t mind travelling to get some good wreck diving. I will need to rent cylinders and lime for my classic inspo. Any help would be great. Best Regards, Barry

The oldest intact vessel of war in North America is about an hours drive north of Albany. It's only in about 105-110 ft. Google the Radeau. Only problem is you need to get a "permit" to dive it. Not a problem getting it, just takes time. Some other wrecks in Lake Champlain, but that's a bit farther. If you need tanks, I have a few sets. I could probably spare some lime too, don't think that there is anyone else around here with some .BTW.........on a 30 min dive to the Radeau.........you'll probably see the thing 3 times

| Re: Diving in Northeast America Thanks John, Is there any good diving over around the Boston area, or would I be better planning on travelling down to New Jersey? Thanks, Barry Hello Barry, Yes there's plenty of good diving in the Boston area - we run a charter boat out of Salem MA (about 17 mi north of Boston). We mainly dive shipwrecks and have lots of good ones to choose from in the 80-300 ft range. April/early May can be some really nice springtime diving if it hasn't been too stormy. We have good wrecks 80-160' that are close to shore so if it's a little snotty we can still get out unlike some of the sites off NY/NJ where you may have a long ride = not going if the weather is marginal. Water temps in late April are still around 38-40F, visibility can be 15-30 ft. Give me a shout if you're interested in coming up our way. Cheers, Heather Knowles Northern Atlantic Dive Expeditions - Wreck Diving, Technical Diving, Deep Exploration |

| Re: Diving in Northeast America Thanks John, I dive around the Cape Ann area in Ma. quite a bit. Some nice diving as NEwreckdiver has said. I haven't dove around NJ in awhile, but diving is good there too. Also check out Dave Sutton in CT. He's about the same distance from Albany as Boston/Cape Ann area. Up around the Albany area, it's lake diving, and the best spots are sometimes hard to get to (mostly rec divers). Altho there is a nice ocean tug in Lake Champlain @ 160 ft. If you need some supplies, let me know.Is there any good diving over around the Boston area, or would I be better planning on travelling down to New Jersey? Thanks, Barry

| Re: Diving in Northeast America Barry, You can also go west to the great lakes. Slightly longer drive but fresh water and the wrecks are in great shape. 200 year old wooden schooners with the masts still standing etc. Visit Welcome to Osprey Charters, Inc. Discover Lake Erie's Best Kept Secret In Shipwreck Diving and Scenic Cruises. Come on and Dive Into History !! for more details. (no I dont work for them) John & I dive together often so either of us should be able to help out. Mike |

| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Diving in Northeast America From Albany, Heather's boat is the way to go. She and dive run a buttoned up operation; they are both CCR divers, and have loads of experience and skill. Only shortcoming is Brrrrrrrrr. But think, after the diving you can go into Boston and party. It's only about 30 minutes to Cambridge, where Harvard is located which means lots of bars and restaurants. DT Boston has loads to offer as well. |

| Re: Diving in Northeast America Also check out Dave Sutton in CT. He's about the same distance from Albany as Boston/Cape Ann area. . We're actually in Rhode Island, closer to better diving than in CT. Good wreck selection between 80 and 240 feet, the U-853 is our "day to day" wreck at 90-130. Can support with all needed stuff too. Great beach diving as well, and GORGEOUS scenery and MANY other non-diving activities abound. I commute 3 1/2 hours each way to-from work (in New Jersey) to live in RI, and it's worth the drive. It's about 3 hours from Albany. Dave
