| Max depth for Normoxic Trimix I just want to double check to make sure that I wasn't talking out of my other orifice (from a recent off-list discussion with someone)... Per the IANTD standards, Normoxic Trimix max depth is 60m (eventhough 18% gas is allowed). Although I have been searching unsuccessfully for a copy of the TDI standards, I have seen many sites offering the training stated the same depth limit (60m for Normoxic Trimix). What are the depth limit for Normoxic Trimix from other agencies like NAUI, ANDI, etc ? Thanks. PS: And please don't turn this into a debate if training is needed, I just need some simple answer to the question.

| Re: Max depth for Normoxic Trimix Thanks Mark. And looks like ANDI standards is also 60m for their equivalent program.

| Re: Max depth for Normoxic Trimix TDI standards are set to 18% to allow a 1.4 PO2 at 60M. I sure hope I could do better than a 3% error on a mix, expecially with the O2. We had a real go around with them originally when they set it to 21%, which placed a diver with a higher than 1.4 PO2 as per their recommendations during the dive phase. They then changed it back to the current 18% Dale |

| Re: Max depth for Normoxic Trimix TDI standards are set to 18% to allow a 1.4 PO2 at 60M... And that is the argument point from the other person that 18% and 1.4 PO2 allows 66-67m max depth if combined together. So I don't believe they are related to allow for some (worse case) mixing variable as Mark had mentioned.

Dale Sorry guys I don't know TDI's standards and the answer might be there already but allow me a simple question because I'm lost: 18% O2 and it's still called NORMOXIC Tx course aka Mod 2? So I take it they wanted to stick with 60m vs 21%.Best Philippe |

So I take it they wanted to stick with 60m vs 21%. I think its semantics. I always considered there were two trimix courses Normoxic and Hypoxic. Then some one said normoxic was only 21% 02 as in thats Normal like air so to speak. I, on the other hand, had thought a Normoxic mix was one you could breath on land and a Hypoxic mix was one you couldn't.Best Philippe ATB Mark Chase

I bet you could find a room full of people at around 18% O2. what you exhale from a normal breath is 16%-17% O2. This is enough to support life in an emergency situation vis CPR. I think this is the reason for defining normoxic as being in that range. rachel

| PRISM DIVER & LUVIN IT! Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Max depth for Normoxic Trimix I hold a NAUI Level I there are no restrictions or limits printed on the card; and a PSA Trimix Diver This is printed on card "Qualified to conduct dives using any helium based gas, Nitrox mixture, or 100% oxygen. Max depth 300fsw." PSA has changed to PSA international and the Trimix has gone from 2 levels to 3. NAUI Worldwide :: For level I 16% and up. Level II all gas mixes The Trimix Diver Course consists of two levels, Trimix Diver Level I and Trimix Diver Level II. These courses will give you the skills and knowledge needed to minimize the risks of utilizing helium-based Trimix breathing gas mixes for dives to a maximum depth of 250 fsw / 76 msw requiring stage decompression and utilizing EANx mixtures and/or oxygen during decompression. Your Trimix Level I instructor will teach you to plan and execute technical dives that require stage decompression and utilize helium-based tri-mix breathing gas mixtures and EANx and/or oxygen for stage decompression to depths above 200 fsw / 61 msw. In your Tri-mix Level II course, you will learn how to safely extend your diving depths down to no greater than 250 fsw / 76 msw. To enroll in either Trimix course, you must be certified as a NAUI Decompression Techniques Diver and Technical Helitrox Diver or equivalent, and have a minimum of 100 logged dives 20 of which must have been decompression dives. PSA International - Advanced & Level I is 18% and up Level II & III are all gas mixes. Trimix Level 1 This course provides the training required to competently and safely utilise breathing gases containing helium for dives that require staged decompression, utilising nitrox and/or oxygen mixtures during decompression to a maximum depth of 60 metres in conditions similar to or better than the assessment conditions. This course may be undertaken in the equipment of choice based on prior qualification. Trimix Level 2 (Expedition Level) This additional experience level assesses the experience and performance of the Trimix Diver and following successful assessment dives to within 3 metres of a target depth may be awarded a rating maximum of 75 metres in conditions similar to or better than the assessment conditions. In cases where there is documented proof of prior experience the Professional Instructor may combine level 1 and 2. This may be undertaken in the equipment of choice based on prior qualification. Trimix Level 3 (Explorer Level) This additional experience level assesses the experience and performance of the Level 2 Trimix Diver and following successful assessment dives to a maximum of 80 metres in Great Britain may be awarded a rating maximum of 100 metres in conditions similar to or better than the assessment conditions. Proof of successful involvement within the structure of well-run expeditions and an additional season's diving to build experience are typical of documented experience requirement. This may be undertaken in the equipment of choice based on prior qualification.
