| Hello! Is buying a pre-assembled bailout a decent deal? Should one buy tanks and hardware and make it yourself? I found pre-assembled package here so prices are of course important. Is this a good reg for a wide range of use and is it dependable? I'm not endorsing it just was considering buying a 40cf from here. I'm planning on taking MOD 1 in next 6 or locally next summer. | Re: Bailout Package or DIY??? Hello! Might be wise to wait for the course to begin. Then you can get info from your instructor and maybe he/she can fix you a good deal for that bail-out set-up.Is buying a pre-assembled bailout a decent deal? Rebreather Cylinder Packages Chris I personally think that AL40 is still to small for anykind of diving, it might work for really shallow stuff... |

| Re: Bailout Package or DIY??? AL40 (cuft)will definately do for mod1. (Try calculating yourself)... But I guess it's up to you. If they can be had then an Al7 liter (luxfer makes them I just don't know whether they make them for their home market too) provides you with a very comfy margin so you can even decide to dive a tank 1/2 full if you like its boyancy better like that way. Remember it's mod1 not full trimix...For future courses you may want to reuse it to carry a travel mix or oxygen. For the rigging it is a matter of convenience over being able to customize or vice versa. Probalby a nice package for warm water but I'd require really big boltsnaps to get my gloved finger in. In addition I wouldn't want to have the swivel etc etc... Soooo I ended up creating a set myself. The boltsnaps can be easily obtained from a marine hardware store and the same goes for rope and the jubilee clip. A piece of garden hose is an good conduit for the rope... Why? It makes it easy to balance the stage the way you want it. If you find your stage is banging your dil tank then shorten the rope, move the jubilee clip up or do whatever works for you. You cannot do that with a pre-fab rig. To give you a starting point look Frogkick.nl - De Online Gids voor DIR Duiken - Doing It Right Duiken (Oops it's a DIR site and I'm a DIW guy )' No verdict on the regs. I simply don't know them.

| Re: Bailout Package or DIY??? I use the pre-made Diverite deco bottle set-up's (essentially an overpriced diverite handle, snaps and bands) these work just fine and tend to look a little better than the homemade ones everyone else uses. But there are some nicer homemade descriptions on some DIR sites that willhelp you out in making your own. I would however stay away from the kit you linked to that uses the diverite regulators. If you already have OC regulators use those, otherwise decide what you want in a bailout reg, the best would be poseidon xstreams but they are extremely expensive for something you never want to use ($700), in the mid range I love apex and for the bang for you buck you can't beat sherwood. Personally if I had to buy regs for bailout I would go with the Sherwood Blizzard as they are dirt cheap ($350) and bulletproof, the downside is that they can be like trying to breathe through a straw at deeper depths. And 40cf would be perfect for mod 1, and depending on who you talk to good for deeper dives. If you have any doubts contact your instructor and see what they recommend, CC just like OC is full of different opinions so gather as much info and ideas as you can. just my 2 cents Russ Last edited by Russ : 12th December 2006 at 20:27. |
