| Re: Discuss the BOOM article here I have a Kiss. An article like this shows some of the additional failure recovery modes of the Meg. I would be interested to hear about these procedures on other units. Good reading. Thanks Ron.

| Re: Discuss the BOOM article here Ron, Thanks for posting the article. A refresher is never a bad thing! Regarding the completeness or effectiveness of existing CCR instruction, I believe that much of what "many" CCR divers claim to have never heard before is due to the "huge" amount of new information that is presented in Mod 1 classes. I remember sitting throug both Mod 2 and Mod 3 thinking to myself, "I don't remember hearing that before", only to go back to my syllabus from a previous mod and finding the information in big black bold letters! Personally, I think that most (not all) CCR instructors are quite competent, and follow standards and procedures very carefully, including all of the required lecture materials. I think the bigger problem usually lies with the students that quickly forget or never internalized material in the first place. I think it is an interesting question to consider whether or not the standards are too relaxed for training new CCR divers in the first place? (I'm not sure I have an opinion on this one way or the other?) ![]()

I would be interested to hear about these procedures on other units. I was first taught the boom scenario when learning to dive on the sport kiss with an instructor who also dove a meg. Go figure.Good reading. Thanks Ron. It works the same way except you don't have the offboard gas option. What you do have is time and options before you need to bail assuming the failure has been isolated.

I would be interested to hear about these procedures on other units. the basic boom procedure is handled the same way on all CCR's, its what you do after you isolate the problem that will have some differences. the external gas situation is similar for CCR's like the inspio, evo, meg, prism, the Ouroboros will be slightly different due to the ability to switch gasses on and off with the integrated valves and offboard options. (I have only pool dived the boris, not had the full course). The Jetsam units will of course bail out using the BOV and unless they have been modified, they will not have any offboard gas options, but the boom part of the scenario is still the same.Good reading. Thanks Ron.

| Re: Discuss the BOOM article here Ron, Agreed, the basic boom procedure is the same, and I thought it was well covered in my MOD-1 class. I have Meg, Boris and Inspiration diving buddies, and we have discussed unit configurations at length. I just wanted to point out that I enjoyed your article for the details on off-board gas switching. Clearly this would not be covered by my training, but is available to these other units. Thanks again for putting it together.
