My 2 choices are Andrew driver and Leon Scamarhorn. I have possed the following question(How many Instructors have you certified to teach(and what units) and how many students have you certified to dive(and which units)) to every instructor that I have spoken to, and the list is about 6; it was answered immediately with no insult being taken. For some reason my post is not being interperted that way, so please do not take offense, but I feel that that is a fare question to ask. So I will ask Joe R, How many...? Martin ![]() It is is a reasonable question to ask me thinks and reminds me of one of the things Leon says to ask potential Instructors (I think Leons question is more pertinent though)... "Ask for a few student references and a resume on the instructor." For myself I don't think Quantity always = Quality and would prefer an instructor that was highly regarded and had only taught say 50 students to one that was mediocre and had taught hundreds.... After speaking to Joe, personally I have a LOT of time for his advice. Just my PPO2's worth *grins* at Sarah (In house joke that one) Stuart |

Martin ![]() Most interested parties already know my rep, I don't go looking for students they seek me out.. When a person is asking to become a student of mine, the first thing I do is get them on the phone and do a "councelling session" to find out what their abilities and goals are... I turn down alot of students (diver level) because they don't have the right attitude.. If the student wants contact for past students, I have no problems supplying it... But the fact is people pay me to come to them and train (or put the expense to joing a class that I may be running for another shop).. I still think the question is inappropriate for a PUBLIC forum but rather should be between potental student and instructor but I will answer it anyway.. I am not really into numbers but just off the top of my head I can think of at least 10 instructor classes (CCR) that I have run in the last year, and about double that for user classes (although mostly deco and trimix stuff).. Almost all of these required me to travel.. I am also a believer in small classes, I usually train 1 or 2 students at a time... I'll leave the mass teaching to others.. As an ITD I am not supposed to compete with other instructors for diver level students, my job is to create instructors, instructor trainers, develop classes and help the instructors improve their classes.. I often "assist" other instructors to help them improve their classes and they get to "certify" the student as their own..

| If it dont feel right it probably isnt. I dont think it woud be a good idea to give Rebreather students hypercapnia hits. You wouldnt give them an 02 hit!. As some people have already said if they handle it on their training course they may become complaicent about it once the course is completed. The best way is to educate students about the problems of hypercapnia and that if at any point during the dive it does not feel right it probably isnt and time to head upwards. ![]()

That is, of course, if that "feeling not right" is not a symptom of hypoxia, in which case going upwards would make things worse . Remember, if not feeling right, first flush diluent or go OC, then upwards Cheers, Pawel www.AliensOfTheSea.com/HDTV |

| Hi mate. Of course your right heading upwards because of not feeling right could be worse if it is not a CO2 problem. What I realy meant to say was take the appropriate action and bailout if neccessary. Thanks.

| To add to the discussion. one of the things which made me think before playing was that allegedly some people don't regain consciousness from hypercapnia. So it's interesting that some agencies insist on it. I'm glad I've tried it because I've proved my bailout drill to myself. That alone was worth the risk. If I'm better at spotting hits in the future, then that's a nice bonus, but not the main reason to my mind.

We've got all sorts of different diving machines, and many different styles of diving represented here. Again, welcome aboard! Rob Davie
