The level system was designed so the diver's cababilities and class requirements (regardless of equipment) could be standardized.. Level 1 basically an open water diver, and introductory programs Level 2, someone who has completed CSU. other programs od this level have a 40m limit for their diving with no decompression required profiles. Level 3, is ANDI's starting technical level.. 50m max depth for most programs (some have additional limits) 30 minutes max deco, and a nitrogen only medium (TTM - technical trimix is a special case) Level 4 - exploration type diving. not necessarily deeper still 50m, nitrogen only, but unlimited runtimes, unlimited deco and unlimited gear configuration. to meet certification requirements substantional required deco is necessary Level 5 unlimited gear configs and helium allowed, normally no depth limitation. ANDI does have an intermediate Trimix program with a limit of 60m but this is not in the normal class progression, its for places that can not meet the required depths for full trimix certification. With CCR there is no L4 program because the planning complexity and bailout run times are similiar to that of a l4 diver. In this manner If someone told you they were a l4 cave diver you would know that would mean they have no gear limitations or run time limits but I can't go beyond 50m. If someone said they were a l3 advanced diver you would know they are allowed 30 minutes of deco to 50m. The only thing you wouldn't know without specifics was that its a full penetration certification. I hope this explanation helps..

| Thats the maximum depth, nothing states you have to go to 50m.. The depth I bring my students is based on how they react at shallower depths.. Most times I limit it to 40m-45m, fro experienced divers I may go to the limit.... If the person has no intenions of diving deeper tha 50m then they can now take the technical trimix program and do 50m on mix..
