| Looking to improve CCR courses Hi All I am always looking to improve training programmes on CCR, most will agree they are generally very well run courses as instructors need to gain quite a bit of experience and a good education prior to certifying as a CCR instructor. What I am looking at is how well do you believe your course was run. Did you feel you had a firm grasp of the unit at the end of your course or were you still not total sure about all the skills and Theory? Did you find out later things you consider to be important now that were never shown, discussed or practiced but were discovered when diving with other CCR divers, if so what were they? Did your Instructor wow you with your course and you believed you got it all covered? I am also interested in new teaching techniques like videoing the student during dives or Photographing the student executing skills to use in debriefing to help describe in detail what could be done to improve. (Before anyone decides to slam me for this I always use an assisting diver to take the shots) Did your instructor use any cool teaching techniques not normally used in scuba class and what were they? I have posted a poll for you all to provide some feedback but also welcome your comments. Please if you were not happy with your course do not just slag the dive operation or the instructor this is something to take up with the training agency. If you consider your instructor to have done a good job then feel free to mention it. On a final note all you Instructors and IT'S out their how do you value your diver level training? Do you run your programmes the same way your first CCR courses were run or have you modified it and how? Thanks in advance for all you feedback.

To gauge the effectiveness of a very diverse, hopefully comprehensive program you really need to design a more expansive survey tool. A survey that uses a Likert Scale would allow a range of responses: 1-5, 1-7 etc. In addtion, a structured survey could 'quantify' and categorize responses particular to certain domains of learning. In other words - ask about attitude, intellectual learning, psychomotor skills (very important in Rebreather diving) and to a very small extent verbal knowledge. At present, the responses range only in a 1/0 parameter. It's the shaded area in between which has the most meat and greatest interest. My two cents. |

| Re: Looking to improve CCR courses Which one of my courses do I fill in the survey for.? I have to admit, like Ken said, a decent survey will reveal far more and I am not sure this one tells us much at all. Only 2 of 7 are positive and not multi-answer. Hey Ken, ar eyou able to toss one of these "you bute survey's" together for the benefit of tecdivertraining and RBW members. Last edited by wizbang : 29th March 2006 at 21:09. |

| Re: Looking to improve CCR courses I do think a collaborative survey would benefit the Rebreather community and especially training agencies. I would be happy to assist - maybe during the summer. No time right now. A really tight survey takes a fair amount of time and tweaking. |

| Re: Looking to improve CCR courses It would be Worthy to note that the rebreather training is still in its infancy. I would say that most instructors will continue to learn beyond the first classes they teach to students. Hell with the rebreatherworld at your key board everyone is learning something (pre-students and Instructors) or should be. I,m not sure it is a objective poll as said before its missing some important details. I look back at my Atlantis course and say wow, I would not have certified me or the instructor based on whats now available. Then again I took the time to do more research after the class. When taking a rebreather class if a student has objectives ( beyond holding a cert card) they should be voiced to the instructor and if not the Instructor should prompt such questions. You get what you put into any advance cert or tech class. Mastery does not come from a cert card it comes from practice and experience (bad and good)

| Re: Looking to improve CCR courses Why dont we tie this all in with an improvement to the site as we will need some sort of survey tool for voting and stuff on the RBW Rebreather awards... If any one fancies doing some digging for a web based survey tool - it will need to integrate with a vbulletin membership so we can stop ppl voting multi times but they dont need to register twice etc. I shall have a dig around too after finish upgrading look and feel and doing new front page and sorting out streaming video storage for the gallery.
