What goes wrong when your 'breather gets old

In the "Reading Material for Mixed Gas" thread, I asked a bunch of questions I would like to see answered in a good CCR trimix book. I asked one block of those questions in "Which Bailout Gas"; here is another block:

By the time you start CCR trimix, you have probably logged around 100hrs on your unit. It's no longer new, and things are starting to go wrong. What things things start happening at this stage, and how can I fix them? What was the hardest to identify problem you've had with your unit? How did you find it? How did you fix it?

Well with only 75'ish hours on the rEvo I can list the following:
* Had to change batteries after 70'ish hours....
* Had some LP-hoses leak slowly due to bad crimping - replaced.
* Had to replace some bad cells.
* Had some bad elctrical crimps on cell-molex'es, pestered around figguring out if it was cells or crimps...

The worst was by far the molex/crimp, as it was intermitten, and the rEvo-dreams does not indicate wich of the two cells are being displayed. Took some time to figure out and get right. But this is more than 40hrs ago, and its been flawless ever since (solder-crimp-solder).

Not many things to go wrong the rEvo - so we'll see later on....

... and this is the way all the molexes are now mounted on the rEvodreams or the Shearwater Pursuits...

Most life support kit requires regular service by trained pros.
Send it in for service each year or when manufacturer recommends , it will never get old... mabye a bit lacking in modern tecnolgy

Problems? Let's see. In 250hrs I have changed batteries 4 times. Changes sensors 3 times. Tighted one oxygen injection connector, and serviced the solenoid and the regs.
Other than the loose pipe on the oxygen injection everything else would be routine maintenance.

Oh yeah, I service the DSV about every month or 2.

Re: What goes wrong when your 'breather gets old

Not including regular servicing, replacing consumables (batteries/cells etc) and upgrades (New electronics)...

Replaced ADV Diaphram- it gets "loose" with age on CK.

Replaced Breathing Hose QC O-ring- got kinked by poor assembly, possibly old/loose o-ring or insufficent lube? (more likely- User error/I was rushing!)

Replaced Head retaining bolt- corroded in place in Ali spine and had to be drilled out. (Poor materials choice/lack of maintenance?)

Otherwise (touchwood) well behaved!

For completeness I should add that Paul offered to redo all the crimps (solder-crimp-solder) free of charge, except for transport (wich I woudl get free through work). But I like to fiddle, and had the tool at hand, so I did them myself. Gold-plated pins were supplied free of charge by Paul.

So its really a minor thing to fix, and I recieved full service from Paul!

Re: What goes wrong when your 'breather gets old

Well, I dive a inspiration classic, when drying the head you should never hold the head higher then the computers, because in this way any condense or other moist could seep in the hollow tubing's towards you computers and corrode them so bad that nothing works any more…

I wish somebody told me this before…

have a nice dive
