Dive Tech - Inner Space 2008

Hi,

I am debating if I should get my MOD 1 certification at Dive Tech this year during Inner Space.

Innerspace

Has anyone else done this here and what is your opinion? It looks like a great opportunity to get a lot of dives in and be around CCR divers all week long.

Dunno, like you mention, being exposed to that volume of varied experiences is worth its weight in gold. I find the social interactions valuable on roadtrips, i.e. you never know who you'll bump into hanging out at Dive Outpost in Lauraville....

On the flip side, I also believe in training like it's game day... So, if your diving is going to be alot of Great Lakes, how much is diving in clear blue warm waters going to prepare you....?

Re: Dive Tech - Inner Space 2008

Well,

I think warm clear water is a good idea to learn on the unit as its less stressful. I think there is enough going on to where not having bad viz etc is a good idea. I was thinking of stretching it out and making it two weeks there, but then I think I would want a CCR buddy the 2nd week.

Once certified with dives under my belt I can slowly ease into the local quarry which I am all too familiar with...and then maybe the lake which I'm not fond of.

I took my MOD 2 class last year at Rebreather week at Dive Tech in March. I would recommend that you may perhaps start a week earlier and enjoy the Teck week after completing the course. You will be able to observe and dive with others to see what is new in the industry. Good training at Dive tech !!!

I have to agree with Jepuskar,

I am signed up for Innerspace, and like the idea of doing my Rebreather training in "easy" conditions. After a week of diving in the warm stuff, I can return to Canada and ease into more typical conditions.

You know Patti, as much as I thought about this...that idea never crossed my mind. I am really going to give that some serious thought, so thank you!

If anyone happens to see this and would like to do the same let me know.

Thanks again Patti.

I was thinking the same thing. I bet teh place is pretty hectic during the event so doing the course in the week prior might be easier. Plus then you won't have to miss event stuff because you are training.

Another good point. My class would prolly be smaller too.

I can feel the money leaving my pocket already.

Lots of options with Divetech/Innerspace. You could get there like 3 days early and get enough done so when the event starts you'll be able to get on the boat dives with everyone else. Boats now run air dil divers and mix divers on different boats at different times. Nancy, Jay, and Natt have their act together. I learned @ Innerspace 4 yrs ago and have no regrets. My CR and CW were done prior to getting to Cayman so it was all boat dives for me. The wealth of knowledge and experience that will be there is priceless.
Don't wait too long to pay a deposit as it nay very well be sold out. 35 pd deposits as of DEMA. And I am one of em. Seeya there.

Re: Dive Tech - Inner Space 2008

I did my MOD 1 there 2 years ago during Innerspace and had a blast! We even got in several boat dives.... I too normally dive the dark cold waters of lake Michigan and Lake Huron but learning the KISS in warm water with good vis helped build my confidence such that once I got home I didn't have any issues with doning that dry suit and stepping into the local cold water!

Good Luck, I'm thinking of doing my MOD 3 there this year.... (got to talk to the wife about this one )
