Yes, 2 instructors to one student, At least that is the way Hal use to do it.
So, air at 73m.....

END of 73m.

PPO2 of 1.74 bar.

I don't care how big their balls are, that's stupid. They do know you can get helium, don't they?

Hal Watts is a loverly guy, I had the pleasure of his company in the red sea a few years ago and I can tell you he dont (didnt) like Helium!!! I saw him do a 95m air dive on a single 12l okay he was only there for a few mins but he scared the shit out of me. I was teaching a OC trimix course and we were crusing the reef at about 75m when Hal and Jane (his wife) came hurtling past us, landed on the seabead, they exchanged a few singles and then rocketed up to 50m where they did a normal reef dive for an hour or so

scariest thing I ever saw

Well I didn't want to get involved but.........I am a current PSA Deep diving instructor. I am certified to teach to 180'(55m). Yes, you can go to 240' on air. Yes, the instructors are on air.
Now before you fall out of your seats, allow me to explain the dive. The group brings a safety cylinder to the line we are to descend. As a group we descend on the line, at time intervals data must be recorded on a slate. at no more than 10 minutes the up signal is given and the deco portion begins. At no time are you more than an arms length from the line, no swimming is done (=less CO production). I think that was what Martin was trying to get across, you can't actually dive in the real world the same way.
The course really "sells" people on trimix. I know when I did it as a student in '99, I thought I could dive like the legends of wreck diving. 200' on air had been done for years, why couldn't I do it? well....not so fast. I concluded I could NOT dive deep on air. So, after the course I did a normoxic trimix class.
Why do it at all? well I like to experience things for myself. You can tell people about the "jungle drums", you can read about it or you can "do it" in a relatively safe enviroment. Again it's not for everyone but neither is jumping out of a plane (yes, done that too..82nd AIRBORNE)

My $.02
