| New Evolution Instructor Questions Hello everyone, Joey Guess here. I have just completed my instructor course on the Evolution with Vision electronics. I know what the manuals and textbooks say, but I would like to get ideas and opinions from the experienced divers and instructors on what would add to a student's basic class. Your input will be very much appreciated. Thank you, Joey |

| Re: New Evolution Instructor Questions Add a stage cylinder right from the start. Aluminium stage that is. Make sure you have one for your students if they do not have their own. That way they will always equate CCR diving to the necessity to dive with a stage. Ditch the AutoAir - One breath from death - replace with standard inflator. Get them to do the first dive in their drysuit, helps you to crack on with buoyancy right from the outset. I normally get people to crack their buoyancy by the end of dive one, maximum by the end of dive two, otherwise I retire from diving instruction. Always make sure you have your own in-water support, do not rely on the student for this. This will allow you to adequately demonstrate the skills whilst your support watches the student. Explain to them that diluent is just as important as O2, the fact that it is the diluent that allows us to dive the O2 deeper, some people put more onus on the importance of O2, IMHO diluent is equally as important, hence ditch the AutoAir. Isolate their ADV if they have one for the first 4 dives, this makes them remember that they can manually inflate their diluent. Teach them to make the first 6-10 metres of descent using the O2 manual add instead of the ADV/diluent manual injector as a cast-iron way of checking their cells for current limiting at the start of every dive. I find that by teaching these little tips I am already investing in a future succesful trimix course for the student. Oh and treat 'em mean - keep 'em keen! Cheers, Dave Cooper.
