Re: Bail Out - On or Off

hoses charged, but valve off until needed. OC bailout is an independent system, however can be quick plugged into the BOV if necessary (if ffm for example). BOV is into diluent for shallow dives/sanity breaths, but completely offboard/independent system for deeper dves

If I dive with one tank, it's ON. If I dive with 2 tanks, the deep one is ON and the shallow one is PRESSURISED AND OFF. These states are reversed as I approach the shallow tank MOD.
Ditto, 1st gas (bottom bailout) is always switched on for a quick bailout if needed, deco bailout is pressurised then switched off, then half a turn back on.

Re: Bail Out - On or Off

Hi Heather:

Yes, except mine are Zeagle (Apecs?). I used the same type on all of my stuff so there is no question about which way is open. Also, all of our group uses the same ones so we are all familiar with one anothers equipment.

With practice you can easily deploy the reg and open the valve and the shut off as described in my post.

FWIW, I have used the Zeagle shut offs on my regs for many years and have never had a problem with them. The key IMO is consistency and practice, with which the proceedure becomes second nature.

Regards.

Joe

Hi Joe,
Are you using a slider valve type shut off like this?
Isolation Valve Ridged Grips

I have some, but have not yet installed them because I considered it another failure pt and 1 more thing for me to do/check. I go back and forth on whether I want the gas on or off. When diving OC I always dive with tanks off but regs pressurized - but there's a different need (that admittedly doesn't necessarily justify a different method) OC vs. CCR ... so for CCR I generally leave the tank on, which can be a problem with FFs when scootering if the reg gets in the flow. I don't have a BOV.

Cheers,
Heather Knowles

Re: Bail Out - On or Off

1 sidemount: valve is on.
2: depth appropriate mix is on, other is pressurised but off.

I use poseidon jetstreams and have my 2nd stages turned to the minus position so freeflow is not an issue.

My philosophy is it doesn't matter what you do as long as you always do it and that way.

Cheers

Re: Bail Out - On or Off

BO Tank Valve is open with a inline shut off valve on the 2nd stage. I used to pressurize the first stage and then dive with the valve off but I have had to rebuild too many 1st stages using this method as H2O always gets in eventually!

Re: Bail Out - On or Off

I sidemount my bottles and leave them off, it's a Florida Cave thing. However I have a right sourse connected to my dil so I can get to that gas if I need it. I also carry a reg to get to plug in and get to my O2 if I need it, don't want to drown with gas on my back.

Re: Bail Out - On or Off

My leanest non-helium mix is my drysuit inflation so my bottom bailout and at least one deco gas is turned on. If I use air bailout then only it is on.

Same as Dave. I sling my bottles with my Golem Armadillo CCR kit and I have my Golem BOV plumbed into my DIL.
