Re: cochran

Take a second and do a quick search on "Cochran" and I think you will find lots of recent information as an initial starting point.

Re: cochran

I have a couple of the EMC - 20 H models and enjoy using them. They are quite easy to use and figure out.

Re: cochran

There are two schools on this thought process.
Some people rave about the company, and feel they provide
an excellent product. Including recent changes and modifications to the programs and algorithm. Ok, I’m being nice.

Locally we had a 300% RETURN rate. Yep, 300%!

Also the Algorithm is private and they will not… to anyone… provide any details… guess what you are diving their algorithm.

Recent changes to computers they have charged customers.

Diving in Bikini-
I will credit that some people feel that the problems were amplified by the dive operation not understanding how the computer reacts when in decompression- however, the failure rate (locked up, and those crashed) was not a misnomer.
Read for yourself-

Good luck with your decision.
Regards, Andrew

Exclamation Re: cochran

I personnaly swear by cochran, there customer service is great. i have owned 6 different models...i got a gemin when it first came out...and it had some serious problems!!!!!!!!a few months later they did fix the problem...cept the damage and bad publicity was done. with anything with new technology, it dose need time for development. they are the biggest supplyer of dive computers to the us navy so they have alot to lose...they are coming out with another rebreather computer soon, will have enviromental monitoring

Re: cochran

I like my EMC 20H! Not one problem with it since I got it (not even a bat change) and I have 110 dives on it so far. The only down side I see is you can't bail out on it, other than that I love it

Re: cochran

Both IMHO and in painful real world experience: Company totally composed of money grubbing dirtbags of the highest order. Customer "service" reserved for those who they see, for whatever reason, as valuable to their needs. Dive shops and individual divers not making that cut should expect to be left in the cold with any problems whatsoever. If a Cochran salesman makes you a promise, get it in writing, then get it notarized, then be absolutely dumbfounded if he actually keeps his word.

If you value your spinal cord, buy elsewhere.

Other than that, great company.

Re: cochran

I will NEVER EVER buy another Cochran. Before I knew better, I had a few of their computers (most problematic was the Nemesis IIa), and all of them gave problems. My idea of a swich to turn on a computer is not my knuckles tapping the case. Not to mention that when I would use it as a backup, it would get bent by hours on repetitive dives (when my VR3 or other computer was just fine). Eventually, they all lost the ability to be re-programmed and the sensors (depth and "tapping" sensors) went out. Cochran does a good job at kissing the military's ass, but I have no respect for the company based on my experience.

Given, it has been a couple of years since I've owned one (and will be more than a couple before I buy another one), so barring some miraculous turn-around from the company, I'd never trust them to make a decent piece of dive gear. I'd be surprised if they could make a decent mask.

Can you tell I'm still bitter?

Buy a VR3. Of all of the VR3 owners I've known, very few have had to send their units back in for service. I've had the same one for over 6 years, and it works perfectly. I recently purchased another as a backup, and have been very happy with it too.

Aloha,
Charlie
