| Re: cochran I've got a gemini, and a navy. i had a nemisis but it farted out bad...said i had a 5400 psi tank press, when i called about it, they said they don't make it anymore and would take it as a trade in. i got a gemini when it first came out and had a major problem with it, i hAD a replacement within 48 hours...to hawaii. i didn't return the broke one for a year cause of ....as for enviromental monitoring. it's suppose to do 02, and i think co2 load. as for vr3, i'm on the other end, myself and a few other guys have had probs that were fixed by...1) sending back to the UK AND shelling out a bunch of money...then waiting once 4****ingmonths to get the unit back....the shearwater i feel is the new kid on the block with the most to offer...i'll stand behind cochran cause i never had any probs like others have mentioned, and when it comes to life support you don't wanna compromise. i was in majuro a few weeks ago and they had alot of negitivity towards cochran too, i cant blame them though....at least check out the shearwater for your comparison laytah steve |

| Re: cochran Steve, I feel for you sir. I hate saying bad things but when you get hosed and friends get hosed it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Like you said yourself. I have talked to Joe about this topic a lot and he seems to feel a lot of the problems of the prior models have been resolved with this new release. I would still be hard pressed to buy one… Just as a thought- Diverite is in development of a Closed Circuit computer. They have the dang thing so veiled in secrecy that no one knows what’s coming out of the box. The only reason I say this is because I have always enjoyed their computers. I have owned three and all have been awesome. The option of the Shearwater looks very nice. I also like the way the computer handles gas changes- and the reference to the radio dial. What about the option of using one of the Hammerhead handsets? They are usually run as a system- has anyone approached Kevin about using it as a stand alone computer or integrated computer for a 4th cell? That might be a little expensive. Please let us know how things work out… All my best, Andrew

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: cochran an xpost from the deco stop. This was put up by Jordan and the last I've heard: Delivery times could be as early as spring 2007. I say that, but come on people -- If it ends up being later (which is completely possible) please don’t quote myself or DR as saying that it is coming out at that time, it’s a guess by me as an individual and nothing more. Expected details: Anondized AL case made in USA Useability: Lamar wanted something user-friendly and familiar, so expect the unit to be similar to the Nitek He when it comes to setting the mixes, advancing through the different modes, etc. Of course there are new extras, such as a graph in the logbook mode. When diving, the format of the display will be similar to the He, as well (the same things will be in the same place). Yes, the numbers are bigger too. Naturally, the VR3 was dived and examined, and they tried to get all of the useful stuff that it does into this computer (diving related, anyways – No games, and oh yeah – No color). It will be able to be used as a CCR computer with or without a cable that is to be connected to an oxygen sensor. This should also enable you to use this dive computer as an oxygen analyzer. Modified Buehlmann algorithm with gradient factors (conservatism levels). The first will be very similar to what the He is now. The second will mimic RGBM and the third will mimic VPMB. |

| crazyduck, thanx for your consideration...I promise not to take any of your bashing personnaly...but don't leave your house at night hahaha kidding. when we were in majuro, bikini divers were telling me the horror stories when they had several cochran failures...when they told me what they were doing to get them to dive everyday...i'd have took a hammer to it mailed it back and called the commander of navy diving and medicine and had their navy contract pulled....i'd like to see a hoseless CCR computer come down the wire, something with a big display like the shearwater or hammerhead, but skinnier...i bet someone from japan is working on cause they are great at making compact rugged stuff laytah steve |

| Re: cochran I've had Cochrans for a while, i.e Nemesis IIa, Gemini, Comander and lastly the EMC20H. I did initially have some problems programming the early Nemsis but had that replaced and the next one worked fine. I also had some problems with the Gemini transmitting to the wrist unit when I wore in on the same arm as my HID .... swapped arms no problem. The commander is fantastic, very dependable and the EMC is great too although it does seem to be quite conservative in TMX mode (unusual for cochran). My only dissapointment with the EMC is that when using CCR you can't bail out, however, if you are doing fairly square dives then tables are fine for b/o O/C with worst case assumptions. Lastly I thought the customer service was good. Anyway that's my 2 cents! |
