Hammerhead secondary.

Since getting my HH back from repair and it is now new I want to keep it that way. On my old HH the secondary would take a lot of abuse because it would often get dragged over rock and such because it was clipped to a D-ring. As well I noticed that there was a considerable amount of damage to the handset caused by the bolt snap that was attached to the handset.

I'm trying to think of a better way of securing it so that doesnt happen in the future and any advice would be appreciated.

I use a bolt snap that is connected to the HH via a 2 inch piece of bungie. I then clip it off on a D-ring that is very high on my left shoulder. This way the bolt snap does not harm the HH and it does not drag. The bungie allows me to just pull it it forward to read without unhooking it...

Dive Safe...

Mark

btw.... I attach the bungie to the HH with a screw mounted cable retainer.

Re: Hammerhead secondary.

I just wear both the primary and secondary on my wrists. Probably too bulky if you are wearing additional computers. However, I like cross checking occasionally, and I like being able to check the numbers without having to push buttons or wait for the scrolling of the primary.

Re: Hammerhead secondary.

My secondary is on about 50mm of line attached to a bolt snap. I pass the cable under my right hand counterlung and clip it off to a D ring on the left counterlung.

This way it dosent dangle but there is just enough slack to lift it and read the numbers channge set point etc.

I cant wear the Shearwater and the HH controler on my right arm its just too much.

Re: Hammerhead secondary.

I usually wrap the cable once around the t-piece to keep it as snag proof as possible then secured it. I might start clipping off the primary as well if I can think of a functional way to secure both handsets. As you said it too much for one arm to have a computer and the handset. I could just move the VR3 to the other arm but it will be difficult when I start using the 4th cell as the Fisher connection would on the wrong side. I know I can just flip the screen which would be alright if it only had to be done occasionally but having to push the buttons every dive would start to get annoying.

Re: Hammerhead secondary.

Dive Rite makes a pocket specifically for the Hammerhead secondary. That might be an option. Works like a gun holster. So, you can remove, check and then re-stow the handset.

Anybody got contact details for Diverite in the UK and a picture of the pocket would be great ?

I purchased the pocket you spoke of. It works okay, but the secondary falls out of it quite easy. Usually multiple times per dive. It also makes quite a nice thunk when it falls out onto the deck of the dive boat. Think I'll keep it simple and go back clipping to a D ring instead.

Re: Hammerhead secondary.

I had the same issue with the secondary handset pocket (it kept falling out, never in the water but yes out of the water).

I have switched to one of the transweight 16 holsters (one of the holsters for Dive Rite's 16 lb weight pocket systems). It is angled, which helps keep it from falling out but what really helps is the velcro strip I had sewn on to the top which I velcro over the opening.
