Jonathan..
Noalox really isnt a conductive lubricant although its listed as such.. Its has conductivity but its quite low.. Its a special lubricant thats designed to prevent oxidation on aluminum products and is needed when using dissimilar metals.. Noalox contains zinc which becomes the sacraficial metal.. This is how it prevents oxidation and MAINTAINS a good connection.. Al-oxide is formed as soon as bare al is exposed to air.. al-oxide is non conductive.. so even after you clean contacts made out of aluminum they immediately start to become insulators.. NOALOX prevents this formation so that good contact can be maintained..

I guess for all SS connections it cant hurt, but I don't think it would be any real benefit.. like true conductive lubricant..

Just for the record - we do NOT recommend using Conductive Lube on the new Delrin sets - they just don't need it.

Keeping ALL electrical contacts clean EVERYWHERE in a rebreathing system is basic maintenance, regardless of what name is on it.

Terry there are lots of brands..

Here is what I use..

go to mouser and search for part # 8463-7G

Let me stress that the HH case design is very robust, I use the lubricant just as an extra measure to cover unforseen problems.. I will never trust a mechanical non soldered connection 100% of the time, I believe in using a conductive lubricant where I want extra protection.. When I say use just a bit, I really mean that.. I put just enough to increase contact area.. on the battery cap I only cover about 1 thread, on the battery its just 2 spots (and dont add more if there is ample residual on the spring or positive contact).. This is also no substitute for making sure the contacts are clean... This is life support gear.. treat it that way..

To give you an idea how effective this stuff can be.. On my previous classic lid, one of my hadsets would reset anytime I had a hard entry or backroll entry (battery bounce issue).. once I started putting a dab of silver conductive lubricant on the battery contact, I never had another reset..

I understand Kevin's point of view, There is a potential for abuse and may encourage not taking care of the contacts.. If you get crap on the oring, now you created another problem that can be worse the the low potential risk for the original problem..

The lubricant is my PERSONAL approach to things, whether you choose to use it or not thats your choice.. It is just what I do for myself.. I am a strong advocate for a proactive approach.. Alot of problems others have experienced, I have not because of the preemptive measures I am used to taking.. I try to never take anything for granted..

Re: HammerHead Revisions and Issues

With the new Delrin handsets, what is the recommended method for cleaning inside the battery compartment and the cap spring.

Should Deoxit be used or just a mild detergent and brush/cloth etc?

Just interested in what people are doing, as there are a couple of small discolourations inside one of my handsets I want to clean up and couldn't find anything in the manual.

Thanks,
Tony

The contacts are SS so just about anything that removes tarnish will work.. Dexoit is fine so is some diluted white vinegar.. a quick dip for a minute or so for the cap (or a small spray) then clean up with a q-tip.. A wipedown using a q-tip is all thats needed for the compartment..

after cleaning the contacts don't close the cap up immediatley.. SS requires interaction with oxygen to get its "stainless" properties.. let it sit for a while then seal it up..

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Is deoxit/white vinegar safe for the cap oring?

Regards,
Tony

personally I usually remove the o-ring so that I can thorougly clean everything.. Neither should do damage to the oring.. I would just make sure the o-ring is cleaned and lubed..
