| HS explorer Hello everybody I am a quite new rebreather diver from Finland. I dive with Classic Inspiration. I use the HS Explorer diving computer for trimix dive with fourth cell. I would like to know, is it very commonly used diving computer? I have noticed that VR3 is very popular in UK. My own computer is second-hand and it works very well. -Anssi- |

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: HS explorer The VR3 is seems to be the much more popular computer, though geographic location probably plays a role. Here in the US there are plenty of Explorers around, but they're less common in Europe. A whole bunch of people here on the board use them.

| Re: HS explorer I have both VR-3's, and an HS-E. Both types are fine computers. I tend to use the Explorer because I like the RGBM.

| Re: HS explorer I have has the explorer for about 6 months now and I am very happy with mine. The only problem I have had is with the depth sensor (reads Deep) and that was only minor. All in all I like the computer Rob |

| CK+Shearwater Current Rebreather/s: | Re: HS explorer Hi, I have an Explorer here in the UK- 'tis a big beasty and the screen and buttons took alittle learning but I'm happy with it. Haven't given it a good trashing depth wise yet but happy with its deco from 30-45mtrs so far. Slightly wary of the durability of the plastic as diving here is tough on kit... VR3's are everywhere- still see alot get "left on the boat" with flat batteries... dived with a guy this summer who had three! One with 4th cell on one arm, one not connected to his YBOD on the other arm and a spare in his dive bag!!! BEN

| Re: HS explorer Sarah and I have Explorers in the UK too.... Mainly as I prefer RGBM to the older VR3 pyle stops and buhlmann. Stuart

I would like to try the new Cochran one day, but my last Cochran units (a long time ago) still left very bad taste... The only two things I really like about the new VR-3 is (1) the color screen, and (2) the menu prompt GUI. The color screen is brilliant for diving in darker environment. And I don't have to remember the options with the prompt menu GUI. I always hear good support for the Explorer, but can't stand the GUI. Without reading the manual, I had no idea how to work the menu when I (re)bought another Explorer a few months ago after a few years of selling the first one. So I sold it without even try to dive with it. Personally, I am holding my breath for the Heliox unit to come out next year.

Its less than optimal but I work around it with a little "cheat sheet" attached to the strap. It would be nice if instead of just counting when you hold the buttons down it actually showed the menu options as they scrolled past- I guess the LCD isn't really suitable for that FWIW- Does anyone like/use the backlight on the explorer? I'm taking possession of the new VR3 with VPM and color screen tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes after I dive it. I've been using VPM for custom cut tables for years on OC.
