| How to... dive a Shearwater Pursuit to +500m? Hi all Had a 'thrilling' experience today at the rEvo test-center :-) Purpose of the test today was to see what the real depth-limitation of the pursuit computer is, as no-one till now tested it VERY deep... Test was carried out in our 500m DIVV (deep immersion video vessel). This is our test chamber where we can test housings up to 500m depth, while constantly monitoring what's happening, and video-taping all that goes on. So once the test starte, the 'heartbeat' went high, waiting for the big 'BANG'! going down.. 50m 100m 150m 200m... 250m... nothing happens, the unit keeps calculating deco and TTS, (at that time already > 2000 minutes :-) ...only at 255m the window start touching the LCD very softly.. ...at 292m (in reality 302m, a bit more as the dept sensor is less correct above 200m) we reach the limit of the dept sensor (30 bar), all of a suddon telling me I'm at surface again.. so the display starts flashing that I missed my deco :-) ... test goes on... showing missed deco.. 350m... 400m.. the spot on the LCD gets bigger as the window touches it more and more.. .... 455m the window cracks the LCD but... the computer keeps working: it keeps flashing the backlight telling me missed deco... .... 500m... (dept rating of the DIVV).. 520... 540... 560m: I stop the test! The pursuit keeps running, the housing does not implode.... I don't have to tell you I'm extremely satisfied with the test, althoug the goal (crashing the housing) was not reached! no every one should know why it's called the 'DEEP pursuit' ![]() paul ps a 'you-tube' will follow :-) 4 pictures of the test : 246m 290m 380m 460m

| Re: How to... dive a Shearwater Pursuit to +500m? just wondering. do you know if it is warrantied to that depth. Maybe you can get the thing fixed under warranty.... I bet my HSExplorer could do that too. Heck you can drive a truck over it. Of course since it's really never worked right. You can hit it with a sledge and it won't make it any worse of info... ![]() |

Gene once told me that his original cases he has to over 1700fsw when empty (he was just testing the case integrity).. the current cases are proably softer as they changed the material to make it less brittle.. but once you fill them with oil they essentially become depth unlimited and only the range of the sensor is the limiting factor.. incidentally the intersema sensor is only rated to 14bar absolute working pressure, it has a rated burst pressure of 30bar (although they don't specifiy the number of cycles).. the a/d in the sensor is optimized for its working range and becomes less accurate the further you exceed the working range.. the absolute limit on the reading will vary sensor to sensor based on the calibration data..

| Re: How to... dive a Shearwater Pursuit to +500m? nah.... up to 100m it is within 1%, by 300m it the unit showed 290, and then the pressure sensor went outlimit of the depth sensor is about 200m.. Thats pretty damn good.. (thats assuming 2nd order temp compensation)youtube nearly ready :-) paul the new version 5535c, has upgraded the esd protection and increased from a 15bit to 16bit adc..
