| Noob Computer Question Hello, I have just recently began diving, and see myself eventually moving toward the tech / wreck area. I am planning on purchasing a dive computer which will work with both air and nitrox. However if I move toward a rebreather, I'd like to only have to purchase one computer which will grow with me. Would I be better off dropping the coin on a VR3 now, or purchasing a Uwatec and trading it off later? What do you guys reccomend? What are the best computers out there? |

| John Routley ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Noob Computer Question i think the shearwater is a perfect tool, i started with vr3's but have now sold them all and gone over to shearwater pursuits. there are plents of threads on the diffances between vr3 and sheawater but one of the best features of the pursuit is it reads 3 o2 cells not just one like the vr3. kind regards john routley Hello, I have just recently began diving, and see myself eventually moving toward the tech / wreck area. | Re: Noob Computer Question The Shearwater is great. Batteries last a long time. User friendly. Will do pretty much everything you'll ever need. I'm sure the VR3 is a great computer but I've heard a lot of pain in the #^% stories about them in the ways of non-user friendliness. |

| Re: Noob Computer Question The Shearwater is great, you can start out with it as a Nitrox computer and upgrade it as you move through the technical coarses all the way to CCR with external 3 cell PPO2 monitoring. It is rugged, easy to use and easy to read with great customer support. If you need to find a Dealer or have any questions about the Pursuit, just let me know and I can steer you in the right direction. |

If you are talking years, then go for what is good for now. If you are talking about a year or two, then you can think about getting something you can upgrade along the way. |

I go with that but I bet you are not talking about just two years.Mixed gas rebreather computers cost a lot and nitrox OC computers are relatively inexpensive plus Ebay gets a good fraction of that back when you want to trade up. Also planning ahead in diving is a waste of time. The kit is still evolving and today's best buy will be 'Wow! You've got one of them? Nostalgia!' so quickly.
