I use V-Planner, and it would be great if this could be made portable. I want something that I can run from a USB stick, as I can't install software on my work PC, and want to be able to do non-work things! |

Have you tried installing VPlanner on a USB stick and running it ?I use V-Planner, and it would be great if this could be made portable. I want something that I can run from a USB stick, as I can't install software on my work PC, and want to be able to do non-work things! I have the desktop and PPC version. I installed the PPC version onto a SD card and have found it works in either of my PDA very well. In fact I will see if I can do the same with my PC version on a USB stick. |

But your settings and config and saved data and registration goes on the host computer. These are not portable. What you may find is your admin has prevented this data from being saved, or any write access to the hardrive, from a USB device. Regards |

Portability would be brilliant Ross. Would you consider coding a portable version in line with the parts you mention in your second paragraph being included? But your settings and config and saved data and registration goes on the host computer. These are not portable. What you may find is your admin has prevented this data from being saved, or any write access to the hardrive, from a USB device. Regards

You are quite right Ross. But your settings and config and saved data and registration goes on the host computer. These are not portable. Regards It does run on the host machine that the install was originally made on but if the USB stick is moved to another machine it does not work. At least not on mine. I've have Admin on all my domain machines. If you put the USB stick back in the original machine it is quite happy. What Padowan was after was probably a breech of your license agreement but never the less is a valid use of the software. Only one user but it is essentially locked to a machine. He wants multi-machine access with a single license so he doesnt need to carry a computer around. I use the PPC version of VPlanner on my XDA Exec phone. It has a large enough screen to be worthwhile plus it has multi use (Phone, Word processor, Spreadsheet, MP3 player). |

I have the software licensed and paid for, but can't use it at work, cos when I try to run the install (from the USB stick) I get a message saying that I need admin rights on the machine. What I'd like is a way to install the software onto the USB key from a machine I do have admin access to, then take the USB to work, and cut tables instead of working! It does run on the host machine that the install was originally made on but if the USB stick is moved to another machine it does not work. I can see the copyright/license problem though, as there is now no track on the number of USB keys that could be generated. I still only need the software available on a small number of machines, and would be happy to define MAC addresses or something that specify the machines the USB will run on.... |

OK, You will never be able to "Install" at work. You need admin rights to do an install and Vista really enforces this. But you can Install it at home to your USB. Or just copy the contents of the installed location to the USB. Now when at work you will need a registration, and you have four keys per year, so use one here. That should work.Regards |
