Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Hi!
I just about had it with Fisher connectors and now I would like to fit my Sherawater permanent to my rebreather.
What Swagelok fitting would I need in the computer end.
Has any one out there been soldering on the Shearwater circuit board?

Cheers
Roger

Roger, I think it is best for you to ask straight from Shearwater:

Re: Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Roger,

Why don't you send the head and your Shearwater to Bruce and get him to do it?

After all, he'll do it correctly.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Re: Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Well I could do that but soldering is not a problem just need to know the right fitting/gland that will fit the housing of the computer.
I have the tools cable cell and the know how....just need the right gland really...

Cheers

Re: Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Hi Roger,

You can just order it that way. We can supply it cut to length with the correct Pelagian fitting if you like.

There is no extra charge for this service.

Bruce

Re: Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Hi!
I have the computer already (love it btw)
I have the cable (the proper stuff made for UW use) and the Pelagian gland as well...
If I could send the computer and cable to you and get it done I would be happy to pay what ever you might feel be fair.
The reason Im picky with the cable is that the 3 types I have tried supplied by another dive computer manufacturer has all corroded to green dust.
I will solder the molex side myself

Cheers

Hi Roger- Just wondering what type of problems you are having with the Fischer connectors??? with a little maintenance they seem to hold up well.

I am working on a post for maintaining the Fischer Connector and will be putting it on the board soon.

Re: Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Roger, After owning two of these squarely connectors myself, I can see what you mean about Fischer connectors and understand the sentiment behind hard wiring.

That said, for those sticking with the Fischer connectors, ever since Curt showed me what it sounds like he's going to write up, I have not had any ingress issues. he's got a few very handy maintenance tips that really seem to work!

Re: Hard wiring the Shearwater computer?

Hi!
Im sure I could have maintained them differently....
But had lots of problems with water and corrosion inside the plug itself and its just a pita to take apart and handle in general.
I only dive CCR nowadays anyway so I might just hard wire it and take out one big source of irritation.

Cheers
