Re: Shearwater Batteries

Watch out for "equivelant" batteries, they are not all equivelants.
The SAFT LS-14500 is the right one and has a current discharge rate of 130mA. The LST-14500 has only 45mA. the LS-14500C has only 25mA. Maplin sell a Maxell ER6-C which is a 3.6v AA battery and list it as an equivelant (Maplin > ER6C Lithium Cell) but this has a current discharge of 100uA.
Selecting the wrong one will cause problems. Only use the correct battery as indicated by the manufacturer unless you are sure of the equivelancy.
Some functions of the handset can pull a large amount of current, such as the alarm screen indication which can exceed the maximum recommended continuous current of the wrong cell.

In addition to the electrical performance and characteristics of the cells, the SAFT has additional qualities that puts it on our "approved list";
Stainless steel container and end caps (low magnetic signature)
Hermetic glass-to-metal sealing
Non-flammable electrolyte
Low self-discharge rate
Compliant with EN 50020 intrinsic safety standard

We have spent a lot of time in testing a number of cells in our products and only recommend the LS-14500.

We have included the battery specification in the updated Pursuit manual which can be downloaded here -> Deep Pursuit rebreather controller

We hope this helps users to understand the reason this manufacturer has chosen their power supply.

Brent

You can buy the SAFT LS14500 from RS Components or LS14500 AA Lithium Battery

Re: Shearwater Batteries

I've had the Maplin lithium cell in my GF since January, no problems with it, even when the alarm screens have been flashing away... before I realised you could switch them off

That's not to say I won't have problems, but so far everything has been fine. I leave the backlight on usually as well, though just on the minimum setting.

Re: Shearwater Batteries

you might be OK but remember the pursuit is a different computer from the GF!
the batterys we have specified are Superior to most if not all others on the market, they are the ones that have been tested and found to be the best by a long shot, so i guess you make your decision pay your money and take your chances..
the saft batterys are the ones to go for!!
kind regards john routley

Re: Shearwater Batteries

for those in the US, the saft battery is not easy to find. The only carrier I found other than On-line was Radio Shack. On-line is much cheeper of course, but if you need one ASAP, then Radio Shack should do the job.

Re: Shearwater Batteries

In every city I've looked, there is a specialty battery place that has them.

These are the guys that make replacement batteries for drills and out of production rechargables. It's a substantial market. There are least two in Vancouver that I found pretty easily.

If you buy 4 or 5 at a time, they will usually give you a price break. Lithiums have a shelf life of several years.

They often have very competitive replacement batteries for lights too.

There are lots of internet sellers too:

Would you care to share the Vancouver sources?

I think I'm having a battery issue - on my last dive, I got a battery warning, but only at depth, as we got closer to the surface, it warmed significantly and the warning went away - I'm assuming it's the temp that made the difference. Any other ideas?

EDIT - I forgot to add this part .... The unit now doesn't get past the splash screen - I see the normal operation screen for a fraction of a second before the unit turns itself off! It has been sitting for about a week since my last dives (with the battery warning) turned off.

(I've got Version 48 installed)

Thanks!

How bout putting up the Link for the UK as well?

Id put up the links as a permanent feature on your site. I really struggled to get the Safts and ended up getting them from America.
