| RebreatherWorld Sponsor ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Sub Sea Display - HUD Bracket I've been using the Sub Sea po2 display and HUD for about 7 months now. I like it alot. I hate the HUD bracket. http://www.deepdiving.net/hud.htmlThe only way to take the HUD slug off for cleaning the BOV / hoses etc is to take out the philips screw. That's gotten annoying. Has anyone fitted a better mount for theirs ? Can it be mounted to one of those nice flexible mounts I have seen? Any ideas / solutions would be welcomed. Thanks JDS

![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there. I have just fitted the Sub Sea Display to my Sport Kiss. I tried it out for the first time on Saturday. Actually ... I didn't find the HUD bracket a real issue. Its goes into the Kiss bailout mouthpiece quite nicely and sits in a position where it's not in the way but is clearly visible. The problem I have is that the HUD cable is coming over my left shoulder but the bracket is set up so that the cable should come from the right. When I un-screwed the single Philips screw which appeared to be connecting the HUD moulding to the bracket, the moulding did not come free. Am I missing something? Is the stainless steel bracket bonded to the bracket as well as screwed? I did not want to use force and then break the HUD moulding. Does yours come free when you remove the single screw? To go diving I routed the HUD cable over the left shoulder, along the left-hand breathing hose, under the mouthpiece, around through 180° and in from the right hand side. This looks clumsy ... but it works. Anyone have any advice how I can do it better? Regards, Steve M.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Sub Sea Display - HUD Bracket Philippe, Thank you for the helpful feedback. I will give my HDD bracket another try this evening, using a little bit more force ... but not too much! Hopefully it will come free like yours and I will simply be able to reverse the bracket and route the HUD cable from the left in a sensible way. This leaves open the question of cable length. I ordered my Sub Sea Systems display for the Sport Kiss with the "standard" cable lengths. I wasn't really sure about how I was going to put it all together and how I was going to mount the three-cable manifold on to the unit. Now that I have all the pieces together I can see that the manifold is best mounted very close to the oxygen Sensor pod. Now all three cables going to the wrist display, the VR 3 and to the HUD are all too long. For the Classic Kiss, you can lose the extra cable inside the counterlung case. For the Sport Kiss this is not so easy. To go diving I simply coiled up the spare cable near the manifold with a couple of Velcro straps. It works okay ... but it does not look very tidy. I'm looking for a better solution. What I would like to do is to take apart all three plugs that connect into the manifold (these are the same type of plugs that go directly into the Classic Kiss kidney), shorten the wire and put the plug back onto the end again. However I can't see how to take each plug apart. It looks to be permanently moulded. An alternative would be to cut off all 3 plugs and fit new ones. Is this possible? Where do these plugs come from? Can I use new plugs and still have each cable waterproof? Any clues or advice... anyone??

| Classic Kiss 124 Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Sub Sea Display - HUD Bracket I have noticed that the HUD bracket is a little wimmpy. I didn't really have an issue but now that you have started a thread, I have decided, I don't like it. ![]() I don't mind the philips, but I would like to see it made out of something a little more robust, maybe SS. I would also be interested to see if any other arms fit the sub sea HUD. I still think the system kicks ass. Cam

Hi Guys,Yes, the HUD bracket is a little wimpy, it's 1.2mm thick, but there was method in the madness. The thickness allows the user to bend the bracket to point the HUD up or down. Some people like it pointing straight at their eye, others like it poining lower. The material IS stainless steel. The bracket WILL pop out of the HUD housing. Just take out the stainless screw and gently twist the bracket, it will come off. Then just orient it how you want it, and making sure the screw hole is lined up, press the bracket back in. If it's a little stiff, just position it in on one side, then lay it bracket down on a hard surface, and push the housing down. Now put the stainless screw back in (the housing has a stainless threaded insert) and away you go. Cable lengths may or may not be an issue, as everyone wants something different. I offer two cable lengths (85cm or 100cm) on each device. Cheers, Jason. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Sub Sea Display - HUD Bracket Hi Jason, Is there any way of shortening the existing cable lengths to suit personal preference? Are the plugs which go into the manifold or the kidney sockets (for the Kiss Sport or Classic) permanently moulded or is it possible to take these apart? If permanently moulded, is it possible to cut off the existing plug and replace with a new plug? I.e. ... how do you do it? Now that I know I can turn the HUD cable around on the bracket, I like it. ![]()

The plugs on the end of the device cables are moulded and can not be taken apart. Of course you could cut them off and replace them with the appropriate "Field Attachable" connector from Lumberg. Part numbers would be:RSC 8/9 - For the DS-1 and VR3/Shearwater cables RSC 5/9 - For the HUD cable Or, you could send them back to me to put shorter cables in. Regards, Jason. |
