Crimp Tool for Molex connectors

Can anyone recommend a crimp tool for crimping the molex connectors onto the bare wires; these are the small connectors used on the KISS; I need to install a new computer.

I know you can get a pukka tool for about £180 !, but is it possible to do a decent job with a cheaper 'generic' crimping tool.

Or should I just solder the connectors on to the wire ....

Re: Crimp Tool for Molex connectors

I've used pliers before sucessfullly not the neatest I'd admit.
i thought the crimps where £30 ish.

Don't solder them though will leave you a stress point.

DO solder them, or after a while you will have a bad electrical connection!!

anyone ever encountered a failure because of 'stress point'?? not to my knowlegde, and never when you fix the cells on a fixed position

Re: Crimp Tool for Molex connectors

If you're careful you can do an ok job with pliers with a very fine tip, like some small wire cutters, and a bit of care.

Re: Crimp Tool for Molex connectors

You need a crimp tool for non insulated connectors

There are a few here, I have used the cheapo ( D1 ) one its a bit of a faff but does the job.

VWP - crimping tools for non insulated terminals

Re: Crimp Tool for Molex connectors

I'm pretty sure it a HTR2262, I have it someplace, and/or will check at work tomorrow. I crimp them and then touch them with a little solder after the crimp.

The proper crimping tool is: The DigiKey part number is WM9915-ND and is about $230 USD, I just purchased one from Digikey.
