Thanks for all you replies.

I ended up getting one of these :-
Rapid Electronics - Crimping tool for PCB connectors

It's amazing how many different views there are on soldering ! I think I'll crimp first, then apply a little solder to the tip of the wire/connector.

I'll add my 2 pennies worth here too. I'd tin the wire, crimp the front section, melt the solder, then crimp the strain relief onto the insulation. Otherwise the hot strain relief melts the insulation and loses its grip. The wire then keeps flexing where it enters the solder and eventually cracks.

In a 'breather there's not much movement so it shouldn't be a problem, but I'd be pretty paranoid if it was mine.

Keith.

The question is not, "Are you paranoid?", the question is, "Are you paranoid enough??".

Hi,

I don't solder after crimping, I'm using glue to make it water-proof. And it works.

Paul, I was never really unhappy.

Helps when you prvide great service, and let me crimp and solder them myself, by supplying the goldplated connectors . Didnt have to ship it all back.
