I use Kodak digital camera batteries exclusively and change them every three months or whn voltage drops to 1.5V which ever occurs first. I can't gte Lithium 3.6's easily but never had a problem witht he Kodaks - ordinary AA batteries expire quite quickly and I recall the two issues I had were using ordinary AAs. For what it's worth....

Lets put it this way, Im currently planning an 8hr dive to 150m depth. I will happily start the dive with new decent quality 1.6v Alcaline batteries in my VR3s. I use Energisers or Duracell. If you try to save a few bucks and use cheap batteries you will get less life

With a Lithium 3.6v battery you should get up to 100hours use (depending on how much you use back light)

Re: Continuous VR3 Issue

Mike, Stay safe! You obviously trust your VR3 completely! I am looking forward to seeing the difference with the 3.5v battery on mine. Just to streighten this out a little, the first time the screen blanked on me as the battery was fairly new and I had put it in myself, I sent the thing back to DP, they returned it with a new battery in, it blanked again within 3 dives or so, the next time it went back it again had a new battery. Each time it has had a battery after failure 1, it has been one fitted and chosen by DP. I have now ASKED for a 3.5v battery to be fitted by DP. I have no issue with DP's service at all, just wonder why I wasn't asked if I wanted 3.5v to begin with?

Re: Continuous VR3 Issue

Hi,

I have sent my VR3 to DP last December for some upgrades and when I got it back it came with 3.6v Lithium battery. Maybe it would be the best to ask DP why sometimes the units come with different types of batteries from them.

Best Regards. Wael

Re: Continuous VR3 Issue

OK, Ask yourself, how impressed would you be now?
I get to the Cove, there's the VR3, working fine, bill; £40 for a 3.6v Lithium battery, a new battery cap ("replace that every ten battery changes"....or in my case every 30 dives or so!) and the cap tool, OK, I can deal with that, what was wrong with it? anything? where's the report? "Oh there is no report just the bill!"..........?

DP, it's on its' way back to you............

Re: Continuous VR3 Issue

No, I did say in the last post it seemed to be working fine on the surface (in the shop) but I want to know they have properly tested it and that it has passed the tests they have done. I would like to be told how it was tested and with what aim? Anyone could put a new battery in it and if it turns on, play with the buttons and say there is nothing wrong with it, that doesn't prove anything!
I didn't expect to just get billed and fobbed off, this has happened three times back to back, if most people are getting alot longer than I am from their batteries (even 1.5v alkaline), either I am doing something wrong, mistaken, or the unit has a fault, how can I trust this unit moving into longer deco until I know? By the by, my bloody Suunto Solution has worked on the same battery for 3 years now!
End of rant, sorry, just a little pi**ed off.

Re: Continuous VR3 Issue

Hi Colin,

Well, I can understand that you are a bit mad about it as if it happened to me then I would be mad as well. I think it wasn't very professional of DP not telling you what the problem is exactly. If I were you, I would give it a new try to see if indeed something has changed this time and if not then take it back to DP ASAP so you would be able to prove the problem presists and since you paid for the fixing the problem last time then they shouldn't charge you anything. Please let us know how thing are proceeding.

Best Regards. Wael

Re: Continuous VR3 Issue

Wael,
I have told Stoney to send it back to DP and tell them to test it and this time report on what they find. I hope I get some faith back this time. I will dive it when it gets back.

Regards, Col
